2019-20 MLB Hot Stove Thread...

Should be some decent karma when Osuna's arm falls off after Dusty puts him into 110 games.

Betts/Price to Red Sox, Maeda to Twins, Joc to Angel's, Graterol to Red Sox, Verdugo to Red Sox, money to dodgers from Red Sox. This is an absolute steal, and if the money going back to the Dodgers is at least $12 million, the Dodgers will still be below the luxury tax. Insane.

Dodgers gonna win 120 games.

I have been waiting for another Dodgers title since 1988. This doesn’t make me anymore hopeful. Verdugo was gonna be a stud and we did all this to pay Betts a fortune. Nice work Friedman. Why do Dodgers insist on doing biz with AL East?

Dodgers essentially gave away Joc Pederson to get under the tax. He's off to Anaheim.

The Dodgers got one of the top 3 bats in baseball and gave up no traditional prospects. Verdugo can be a stud, sure - but the Dodgers still only have one guaranteed contract in 2022. This was a great move for the team and you slot in Betts next to Bellinger, Seager, Muncy, Jturn - you've got an amazing lineup and still have a ton of flexibility and a completely loaded minor league system. Starting 5 of Kersh, Price, Buehler, Stripling and Wood or Urias.

Dodgers should easily be the favorites to win the NL.

He's the odd man out in the OF now, in his last year of Arb and they traded him for a 22 year old good fielding 2B that has decent plate discipline and projected to be a decent bat. Probably beats out Taylor for the starting 2B gig in 2020.

Scoring runs is not the problem in LA and hasn't been in years as Friedman has produced a lot of home grown offensive talent and pulled a few more off the scrap heap (Muncy, Taylor). The problem has been in the rotation. If Friedman would have gotten off his ass 2 years ago and given up a few of his precious prospects for Verlander, we'd have at least 1 and maybe 2 titles. We also would have had Kate Upton busting out of a Dodger jersey.

What we should have done this offseason is secure Gerritt Cole. Now we don't have him, Ryu, or Kenta Maeda (very dependable). What we do have is an oft injured Kershaw, Price whose arm is seemingly hanging by a thread, Buehler who is a stud, and unproven Stripling, journey man Alex Wood, and 2nd year man Urias along with a couple of other rookies like Dustin May and Tony Gosselin. Hardly an intimidating staff.

Maybe we can score enough to overcome that buts its doubtful as that combination rarely works in post season.

Paxton out until June. Yankee injury curse starts before spring training.

And Joc was a salary dump. Guys who put up 37 bombs and have an .873 OPS don't grow on trees. No hit, good glove middle infielders do.

28 guys hit 35+ HRs last year. Joc is useful, but he’s a platoon player. .505 ops v lefties last year, .513 in 2018.

This was tax related. Admit it. In your head and heart you know it's right. You may love the prospect, but if not for the tax, this doesn't happen.

Then again, to get Mookie, a lot of sacrifices are worth it.

Of course it was tax related. But let’s not pretend a guy hitting 37 HRs in the rabbit ball era is some phenomenal accomplishment. Plus, Betts renders Joc expendable.

Dodgers' lineup will win them 100 games, but they're going to need better pitching consistency to get through the playoffs.

Red Sox should name Betts player-manager. Extend him at league minimum as a player and pay him the big bucks as manager. Keep Betts, get a manager, avoid luxury tax. Win-win-win.

If Betts wasn't going to sign an extension with Boston before, he sure as shit isn't now.

But the concept is awesome. It's too bad player-managers are a thing of the past.
