2020 Democratic Presidential Nominees

You all are just going to have to get tired of me posting about Mayor Pete. It's refreshing to see a white candidate talk to a black interviewer without being patronizing or trying to sound cool. He doesn't code switch at all. His answers on Enimem and Chik-Fil-A were so real. "I do not approve of their politics, but I kinda approve of their chicken."

Props to Charlamagne tha God and Angela Yee for a well-sourced interview. They clearly did their homework and asked good and relevant questions.

The only people that will get tired of Mayor Pete posts are the M&M bros and Strick. Also maybe palma but that's because he's a sourpuss.

It's funny (it's not) that y'all claim to be open to disagreement and other viewpoints, and then when someone criticizes someone on policy or problematic opinions, you freak out and go immediately to the "Bernie Bro" smear tactic. It's encouraging to see the coalition of liberals, centrists, and catamount all come together to support neoliberals.

"Bernie Bro" is a bullshit term used to erase POC in leftist movements and push a false narrative that Bernie's coalition is more white than any other coalition.

His campaign is the first campaign to unionize, and he is showing a willingness to hire women and POC. That is not to say that he is perfect and above criticism. I voted to NOT endorse Bernie as a DSA member and I think he needs to support the reparations bill, HR40, and I wish he supported BDS and took more radical positions on anti-imperialism and immigration. But when he is giving platforms to Assata's Daughters organizers in Chicago, that shit is real and cool, and no other campaign is going to do that.

Here is an open letter that the Afrosocialist and Socialists of Color caucus wrote about withholding endorsement until Bernie supported HR40:

In general, I don't care for any politician to get deified. Politicians are not going to save us, and that includes Bernie and AOC.

But I do find the venn diagram of people that claim to love AOC, but at the same time use the "Bernie Bro" smear, to be interesting, and quite indicative of bullshit liberal politics. This whole fucking thread is toxic and I hope to spend less time engaging with trolls, and organizing real people to policies that will materially change their lives, like Medicare for All. I don't support Bernie because I think he's a savior or because he doesn't have any problematic positions. I will vote for him, because he's the most left candidate, and the most likely to push policies and reforms that help poor and working class people.

Have fun with your ex-military, doesn't support medicare for all, concerned about commuting Chelsea Manning's sentence, homeless sweeps mayor. But he speaks Norwegian!

It's funny (it's not) that you claim to be open to disagreement and other viewpoints, and then when someone criticizes Bernie Bros for dressing up bullshit "One True Progressive" or "Bernie or Bust" digs as legitimate policy or problematic opinions, you freak out and go immediately to "Bernie Bro" smear tactics.

"Bernie Bro" is an accurate term used to mock white guys in the cult of personality of Bernie who closed themselves off to any other options four years ago. It's some serious bullshit victimhood nonsense to claim people are mocking people of color when they're mocking white guys.

Isn’t that kind of the whole point of him doing a town hall and a bunch of media appearances?

I bet you were the kid in school who told other kids they couldn’t like a song or a band because they hadn’t listened to their entire discography and weren’t real fans.

Because he’s an existential threat to their support of Bernie.

Bernie Bros are so touchy

If this is the best you can do, Bernie is toast

Are y’all bots or something?

Downright Pavlovian!

I think we probably all should step away from the keyboard right about now... Good lord.

I voted for Hillary. MDMH voted for Hillary. The "Hillary lost because of Bernie supporters" is a bullshit media/pundit take without substantive analysis. DSA/Green Party/Our Revolution folks all do voter registration work. I've spent countless hours doing spreadsheet work, along with Green Party members, to analyze the financial contributions to mayoral campaigns in my city. No one else is doing that work. I support full enfranchisement of all incarcerated people. My post included substantive criticisms of Bernie Sanders. Good job naming the real enemies.

Go ahead and share one criticism you have of mayor pete before you accuse others of cult of personality claims.

You set yourself up for that. This thread is about the 2020 candidates, not you, not me. Chill out. Post some good Bernie takes and discuss the candidates without taking silly pot shots. I don’t know why you think you can win people over to Bernie by just being negative. Try constructive conversation for once.

That was a really good interview. Haven't heard of that radio show before, but I'd like to see them interview some of the other candidates.

I look forward to seeing Mayor Pete on the debate stage. Whether he wins the nomination or not this time around, I think it's pretty clear he will rise to prominence in the party quickly.

The more I hear him, the more I think he can win.

He just gets it. He's smart, he comes across as earnest and compassionate.

It'll be interesting to see how he handles getting beaten up in a debate.

E: I'm also impressed by the interview conducted by what I assume is a morning radio show. They did a great job.

Pete Butt is a proto-Bernie Bro.

I want to see a platform on Pete Butt's website. In his Esquire interview, I liked a lot of his stuff in there, but I want to see a little more substance. I was dissatisfied with his response on reparations. Want to see more about Medicaid for All and Green New Deal. Until dude puts out a platform, all we have to go on is radio spots, tweets, and two terms as a mayor.

I'm nervous about his military interventionist views and hope he stays away from the economic nationalism that Bernie favors.
