2020 Democratic Presidential Nominees

Booker quits. The real Spartacus would never give up, not even in the face of Roman steel. This guy was run off by a few geriatric nincompoops.

To be fair, your constant senile rambling has been enough to almost drive me away from time to time.

Nah, it was the deep state. They really didn't want Booker as president.

Damn the M bro’s have my cell phone number now and won’t stop texting me.

Hi It's Matthew with Bernie 2020. Bernie believes we have a corrupt political and economic system that needs major change. He's running for president to make our economy, our government, and our health care system work for all of us, not just the wealthy few. Are you in for Bernie?

it's really gonna suck when Republicans call nominee Sanders a socialist during the election, as it's clearly an unprecedented tactic which Democrats are unprepared for

An overwhelming majority of Americans do not want to be in a socialistic country. To be tarred with over a billion dollars of ads stating we will would sink Bernie's hopes of winning. Like it or not, this is reality.

I'd love to hear about canvassing in Iowa, MHB. Did you find people open to talk or getting a bit sick of it all? Or were you talking to people who weren't getting contacted a ton?

It must be a bit wild to be in a state where you have that much control over the primary.

I’m hesitant to draw many conclusions based off 50-60 houses. You get so many no answers. It was also 20 degrees and football was on. Each canvasser can have very different experiences. I got invited into 1 home, some got invited in to many. I got a lot of undecideds, others got many Bernie supporters.

One thing was clear. The caucus system seems to discourage participation.

Which Democratic candidate will the republicans not tar with over a billion dollars of ads stating they are a socialist?

There's a difference between an opponent calling you something and you calling yourself that for many years. When they call someone else that, it will roll off. When the ads have Bernie calling himself that, the impact will be much greater.

P.S. I have empathy for those of you who live in competitive states. You will seeing those political ads in your sleep, in your nightmares and everywhere you go.

Of all the candidates who have consistently polled < 5%, Booker was the 1 surprise to me. I get Harris not really fitting into a lane, Klobuchar lacking charisma, Bloomberg only recently becoming a Dem, Beto being an empty suit and the rest of them. But Booker had decent name recognition and charisma and was 1 of the 2-3 candidates that Pubs were most worried about in the general, yet drew no interest. I mean, he was easily double up by a no name mayor of South Bend. What is the consensus here for him not doing better - being drowned out by Biden, Sanders and Warren?

Yep. Why is the first state in the primary process in February in a cold weather state where they require people to go somewhere to “vote?”

I appreciate some aspects of it like starting with a small state to presumably minimize spending and how politically involved people are. But then you have promising candidates dropping out after almost a year in the race before they even get to Iowa because of fundraising troubles and you have billionaires all over the airwaves after getting in only months before Iowa. So emphasizing one state so heavily doesn't minimize spending.

I would rather see a multistage national primary. No delegates. No individual states. No Super Tuesday. Three national elections.

One election in March to narrow the field to everyone who gets over 5%. If this only leaves one or two candidates, skip the next primary.

One election in May to narrow the field from the 5% threshold to two (if necessary).

One election in June to pick the winner.

Get rid of debate requirements. Just restrict the campaigning period and give everybody a shot on the stage. Candidates can focus on courting voters from wherever they feel they can get them in order to reach 5%. Voters can take how candidates did in different states into account for their 2nd stage vote. Perhaps a candidate who dominates in CA and NY won't be as attractive as a candidate who doesn't get as many votes but gets them from swing states.

TITCR.

If the Clintons, Obama, and Mayor Pete are apparently Socialist sleeper agents, I’m not sure there’s anyone who is going to connect that coveted PA diner demographic that “doesn’t want to vote for trump”.

I have an idea, but you're not going to like it.
