2020 Presidential Election: Biden v. Trump

i wouldn't expect a regurgitator of their propaganda to have a much different take.

I got news for you, bud. Your pragmatic moderate pro-small business bullshit is just as much an ideology as anything the far right and far left believe in, and you're up to your neck everyday in that propaganda.

MDMH, what do you think this country will look like if we have another four years of Trump?

How will you like a 7-2 hardcore, reactionary RW Supreme Court for the next 30 years?

How about a 2/3 radically, RW, QAnon spewing federal court system?

This will be the thirteenth time I've voted for POTUS. There has NEVER been one that would harm America more than Trump winning again. There's none even close. Hell, all the rest are T-ball teams playing the 1927 Yankees or a middle school team playing the Tim/Admiral Spurs.

You don’t think I’ll vote for Joe Biden, Ph? Take it from the horse’s mouth: that’s a silly worry. One straw man down.

What’s the difference between that op-Ed and the rhetoric that you’ve pushed back on so hard on here?

I don't understand the question. I thought it was a good op-ed.

She's not saying much different from what I'm saying and what I'm saying seems to really rustle your jimmies. What's the difference, in your opinion?

So recency bias and availability heuristic. Got it. How many lives could Ronald Reagan have saved if he had taken the AIDS epidemic seriously? If Dick Cheney and GWB didn't invade Iraq? We could go on and on like this. I don't know why you need to hyperbolize and villainize individual presidents, when the historical evidence shows these predicaments are institutional. You're gonna say this same shit about the next Republican President.

Then you weren't really interested in the content of my post. You just saw "alt-left" and beat that dead horse strawman into the ground.

It's not a straw man if you're using it, ChrisL. Labeling journalists whose opinions and perspectives you disagree with as "alt-left" implicitly compares them to the alt-right. I gather that you disagree with this person's perspectives, but equating him implicitly or explicitly with neo-nazis is fucked up, ChrisL. You can do better.

Whatever. Keep beating that horse.

Your jimmies are rustled by me and I don't understand why because we largely agree. You're the one antagonizing me about that.

Either way, for me the measure of a good op-ed isn't whether I agree with it. It's if someone did a good job expressing their opinion in a convincing matter.

First of all, I was there trying to get Reagan to take HIV/AIDS seriously. We wrote a White Paper that told the WH about what would happen with the blood supply. Only to be ignored and had to watch innocent people die. People that we would have saved. You keep talking theories. I talk from being broken by the system.

As bad as Reagan and the Bushes were, they were a godsend compared to Trump. Trump is destroying institutions unlike any of them. We know who he is and whom he puts on the federal bench and the Supreme Court.

What I am saying about Trump isn't hyperbole. It's what has done and has promised to do.

What you are trying to do is rationalize not voting for Biden and not being blamed for re-electing Trump. What you are saying is it's 100% OK to tear Dems you don't like and hand the country to Republicans. After all, the Dems weren't pure enough for you.

The extreme left and extreme right aren't opposites. They are the same. A dictatorship of ideas and life is the same from either extreme.

Whatever. Keep beating that horse.

Nah, I'm not gonna let you write that shit. The idea of an alt-right is that these are views that are "alternative right," that don't fit within our understanding of right wing ideology because they're too alternative. In lay speak, that means groups that are so radical in their ideology that they're considered to be fringe within the umbrella of right wing politics in the United States. When you talk about alt-left twitter, I'm assuming that you're referring to rose emoji twitter, most of whom are progressive Democrats and Democratic Socialists, both of whom clearly fit under the umbrella of what we commonly refer to as The Left. You centrists have to make room for the rest of us.

So, please stop fucking using the term alt-left as a way of denigrating perspectives you disagree with if you're not able or willing to defend equating progressive and left wing journalists who are critical of candidate Biden and moderate Democrats with Neo-Nazis. Words matter. When liberal pundits and centrist internet warriors create terms like alt-right, you whitewash the disgusting ideologies underneath. When you create terms like "fake news," you give the Trump administration a tool to discredit the press. Liberals did both in service of defending the Clinton campaign during the 2016 election. Just stop.

You have written some really awful things about me personally and my politics on these political threads that I would appreciate it if you would either respond to/explain or just stop writing. The most recent example was your disgusting insinuation that you are surprised that I don't support sexual assault skeptics and anti-#metoo positions.

If you truly think that this op-ed is good and reasonable, then I'm looking forward to more reasonable rhetoric towards posters like Townie, Kory, birdman, and I who have been making this exact same point for awhile now.

yawn. Over and over you caterwaul about Trump and deflect any criticism of the institutional politics that created Trump. You're so narrowly focused on politicians as soap opera villains that you'll welcome in the next round of fascism into America with open arms, as long as it's buttoned up and pretends to respect the "norms" that you're so worried about; Political "norms" which are so important that they've led us to this very moment in history. Sorry, Chicken Little, you're too late. The sky has been falling for a long time now. If the norms you're worried about meant a goddamn thing, then maybe the average American could go longer than a week without a paycheck. The President wouldn't have unfettered war powers, homeland security wouldn't have the ability to cage border crossers like animals, etc.

Is there really any reason this thread exists other than to bash Biden ?

Pretty much everyone on this board, outside of a half-dozen mental patients is going to vote for Biden. There's no actual issue that's going to come up in the next six months where anyone is going to debate that Trump has a reasonable nuanced approach. It's just Biden bashing and electoral vote counting, right ?
