2020 Presidential Election: Biden v. Trump

There is a deplorable base, approximately 30% maybe more of Republican support that is essentially a hate movement. If Biden wins the presidency that base will feed on the hatred stoked by fox news and alt-right radio. Despite the potential for their lives to improve through democrat priorities. On the flip side if Trump wins that base will continue to be fed what they want to hear from Trump himself as an authoritarian figure and of course also still engage with fox news and alt-right radio. I don't really know what the solution is and I don't know if there is a good one.

I think there are varying degrees of deplorable. You've got the all out hate movement crowd and the people who agree with the hate movement folks on most things but don't like the tactics. My fear is that the deplorables will get even more radicalized by a loss and get more violent and more outwardly hostile toward people who aren't like them.

I dno't understand how anybody can reasonable hope a loss will bring them to their senses. They radicalized after losing in 2008 and 2012.

Poor white people in the south have always chosen racism.
You just really can’t help yourself, can you? Good for you though, participating in class solidarity other the rest of the yuppies. All it takes for you to forgive bad politics is sharing a comfortable economic status.

I could post contrary evidence till eternity, and you shitlibs would still blame all the worlds problems on those damn poor white rednecks and trailer trash.

What's your point? History and the facts line up with my statement. Poor white people in the south have chosen to align with Republican dog whistle politics instead of any meaningful movement on economic issues. They're consistently anti-labor, anti-taxes. They keep carrying water for the wealthy in order to feed white supremacy. What on earth is your counterargument? Rich people vote Republican? No shit. And poor white people either vote with them or just don't vote.

I think it's much more frequently the latter, though.

yeah, he's got data that suggests poor whites are LOW ENERGY when it comes to voting. He has not yet provided evidence that poor whites are likely swing voters when they do vote, however

My point is that you’re a goddamn classist, through and through. Unprompted. It jumps out. You reflexively blame and focus on poor white voters, specifically. I’m really sure those Trump brigade dickheads with their 50k “work” trucks are super fucking envious of your liberal “professional class” cubicles and white collar bullshit paper pushing jobs. Man, you really set yourself apart, culturally, with your pivot table skills. Condescending liberal twats. I don’t know much about Tampa or wherever the fuck, but you seem to have some stupid fucking idea that southern white lawyers, politicians, doctors, are cultured and progressive, when they’re just coincidentally also racist Republicans.

Where's the lie, MDMH?

It didn't really "morph." Resentment of northerners was only about people from the north coming down to fight against slavery and then after the Civil War people coming to enforce Reconstruction. They've never really had a problem with wealthy con men, plantation owners, politicians, or otherwise. Poor white people in the south have always chosen racism over class consciousness.

Where is this class consciousness among poor white people like you claim is there?

Why would you telling an obvious fucking like "you seem to have some stupid fucking idea that southern white lawyers, politicians, doctors, are cultured and progressive" when I fucking said that these are the wealthy Republicans poor white people side with over poor BIPOC?

C'mon man. You do this all the time. And it's born from your own frustration that poor white people think Marxism and socialism are dirty words.

This is an especially rich debate to have on a Wake Forest message board, an elite private school known for producing only the most progressive politicians and jurists.

Yet you and I both went there. I grew up a middle class Black kid in rural eastern NC. You grew up a poor white kid in Kentucky or wherever you grew up.

Good question. Why the hell did either of you go to Wake?
Inquiring (state school grads) want to know.

I do it all the time because you’re a rank classist and apparently no one else in your life has called you out on it. Apparently your bubble of upper middle class liberal academia is just as detached from reality as the homogenous poor white enclaves that you’re so resentful of and condescending toward.

As to your asinine rebuttal, I don’t expect Republicans to support socialism. Why would I? Political ideologies are personal, and are just as much a product of culture as they are material circumstance.

Don't ignore Pittsboro, Ph.

I don't know his bio. That's cool if he grew up in Pittsboro. I have family from there.

So you admit poor white people are just Republicans who don't support socialism, but you get mad when I say poor white people choose racism over class consciousness.

I'm not a "rank classist." That's just some bullshit you tell yourself because your internal hillbilly elegy tells you that "liberal elites" hate you and you're supposed to hate them too.

I'd be lying if I said this argument isn't way above my "69 year old, state school" head.

But it sure is fun. And what is a "rank classist" anyway?
