2023-2024 NCAA Men's Basketball Thread

NCAA Tournament Selection Committee

The 2023-2024 Selection Committee (the year the term is up is in parenthesis):

CHARLES MCCLELLAND (2024) – SWAC Commissioner (Chairperson)
JAMIE POLLARD (2024) – Iowa State Athletic Director
SCOTT BARNES (2024) – Oregon State Athletic Director
BUBBA CUNNINGHAM (2025) – North Carolina Athletic Director (Vice-Chairperson)
MARK COYLE (2026) – Minnesota Athletic Director
GREG BYRNE (2026) – Alabama Athletic Director
KEITH GILL (2026) – Sun Belt Commissioner
BARRY COLLIER (2026) – Butler Athletic Director
MARTIN NEWTON (2027) – Samford Athletic Director
TOM WISTRCILL (2027) – Big Sky Commissioner
ARTHUR JOHNSON (2028) – Temple Athletic Director
RENEE BAUMGARTNER (2028) – Santa Clara Athletic Director

Big advantage here for Butler.

Martin Newton is the son of CM Newton. Remember when FSU made the tournament with a 6-10 ACC record? CM was the chair of the selection committee that year and had some connection to FSU/Steve Robinson as I recall.

What kind of a sick bastard gives his son the name "Martin Newton"?

For a little known school, Oakland seems to maintain relevancy in hoops on a regular basis. They came here about a decade ago and were a fun watch. At that time, they had a small guard who was leading the nation in scoring, and he was seriously good.

Oregon State's AD on the committee could be interesting. He will look out for Washington State, but any other Pac-12 team on the bubble could be in trouble (although Oregon State/Washington State may be able to keep all of the Pac-12 NCAAT revenue). Bubba Cunningham going to look out for the Deacs?

I'd assume most ADs try to advocate for their conference, and the other ADs realize that and vote their conscience except when it comes to their conference. But when it comes to us, we can't lose to both Duke and VT, unless maybe we go on a long ACC tourney run. Still think 13-7 and a win or 2 in the ACC tourney is a prerequisite. The FSU and State losses are killing us right now.

Every extra tournament unit benefits your conference monetarily , so you'd hope a fellow AD would advocate for you.

Let’s just beat Carolina in the ACC tournament and he’ll have no choice but to acknowledge our greatness. I mean especially if it’s in the championship.

Kentucky on the other hand has 56 with 43 seconds left in the half.

26-16 UNC at the half that is absolutely embarrassing for the conference.

Ole Miss is another bubble team, and they are getting killed by South Carolina at home

2 of the top 3 teams in the conference everyone!

Haven't watched Kentucky much but how have they lost 8 games. Then again, you watch us at home and you'd wonder why we aren't undefeated.

Yeah they are kind of like a supercharged version of WF. Tons of talent and when they are playing well they can just blast teams. But also prone to inexplicable losses.
