Another high school shooting, this time in MD

So it's quite possible he was just trying to shoot her and he wasn't seeking mass casualties.

That appears to be the case. The assailant did shoot at the SRO. A bad decision.

That's pretty much the way it sounded from early reports, which made it seem like the second kid was hit by accident.

Also, the sheriff is saying he's not sure whether the SRO's bullet hit the kid, which is weird.

I'm guessing the SRO shot at him, so he returned fire.

Probably waiting for the facts. Usually the shooter kills himself.

He shot at the SRO because that was the one person who could stop the shooter you Dumbass.

Hesus Kristy this board is innundated with Morons.

How did this 17 year old acquire a handgun? You think he acquired it from the black market/dark web?

Both are good things. Let’s ban assault weapons to minimize the risk that someone else will enter school property with one and let’s make certain police trained SROs are on site.

This. Limiting access to lethal weapons while also increasing security at schools are not mutually exclusive actions. Both probably lead to fewer moralities, but one with more certainty than the other.

We need to politically tackle the accessibilty of handguns

Somebody help me understand, why are we just talking about semi-automatics on this thread, when the kid had a handgun. The vast majority of gun violence is commited with handguns, which have little to no sporting or hunting purpose.

Where did the shooter get his handgun, and is that person being charged for criminal negligence?

The kid used a Glock handgun. Almost all Glocks are semi-automatic weapons. A huge amount of semi-automatic handguns would be banned under H.R. 5087 due to accepting more than 10 rounds.

edit: Handguns are usually described as pistols (semi-automatic) or revolvers.

But it was not immediately clear, the sheriff said, whether or not Deputy Gaskill's shot had struck Mr. Rollins. And while Sheriff Cameron initially suggested that Mr. Rollins had shot both the 16 year old and the 14 year old victims, he said later he was unable to confirm who had injured the 14 year old, who was transported to the hospital in stable condition.

um...
