There's a semantic difference between playing a role and having a very small percentage of backward people.

The poll also suggested that more Americans think the country is ready for a black president than a female president. Sixty-three percent of those surveyed say the country is ready for a female president, 13 points lower than those who say the country is ready for a black president.
"Do Americans see more prejudice against a woman than an African-American? More likely, they see more negative feelings about this woman than about this African-American. Because it's true. More people have an unfavorable opinion of Hillary Clinton than of Barack Obama," Schneider said.

No it showed they were more ready for the person Barack Obama than the person Hillary Clinton.
What is also showed is that no one can take winning for granted like she did.
Just other sexist demographics.
You think all women are keen on voting for a woman for President?
Based on these polls, Bachmann, who ran for president, would be in the 37%/14% because she doesn't believe the country is ready for a female president, when obviously she believes a woman can do the job.
I'm sure there are women somewhere that aren't keen on women even voting. Not thinking a woman can handle being POTUS is definitively sexist. There's really no getting around that.
There are very few men who can handle being President. A woman can, but it has to be the right woman. Basically, it has to be one that thinks more like a man. Oddly enough, Hillary fits this mold in many respects.
