Bachmann: Many Americans aren't ready for female president

There's a semantic difference between playing a role and having a very small percentage of backward people.

Did you read your own link?

The poll also suggested that more Americans think the country is ready for a black president than a female president. Sixty-three percent of those surveyed say the country is ready for a female president, 13 points lower than those who say the country is ready for a black president.

"Do Americans see more prejudice against a woman than an African-American? More likely, they see more negative feelings about this woman than about this African-American. Because it's true. More people have an unfavorable opinion of Hillary Clinton than of Barack Obama," Schneider said.

Yes that was an opinion. That was not the poll. You see that is two different things. The poll asked specific questions. Then the author gave his opinion of what the results meant.

The poll clearly states that 63% of the country believes we are ready for a female president. The author them opined on why those results might be but that is just one and opinion. The polling data is what matters. And the polling data says over a third of the country is unsure or doesn't feel we are ready for a female president.

Y'all are making a mountain out if a molehill. Some people aren't ready for a woman president. This is a reality. Pretending it isn't doesn't make it any less true.

I wonder how many of those people who said they weren't ready for a woman POTUS would say they would vote for a Republican woman.

No it showed they were more ready for the person Barack Obama than the person Hillary Clinton.

What is also showed is that no one can take winning for granted like she did.

I think she can take it for granted this time, unless she does something really stupid.

Wrangor, you should really just turn the other cheek against those strawmen you are attacking. It's what Jesus would've done.

Nobody big wants to run against her. Due to the demographics, she will win with about Obama's 2008 margin.

Wrangor is also conflating "Do you think America is ready for a female president?" and "Would you vote for a female for president?"

You think all women are keen on voting for a woman for President?

I'm sure there are women somewhere that aren't keen on women even voting. Not thinking a woman can handle being POTUS is definitively sexist. There's really no getting around that.

Of course there are some people who won’t vote for a woman for president, or that think the country isn’t ready for a female president. But let’s not sell our citizens short by using a poll from 2008. This one says it is up to 86%!

Poll: Voters Ready For A Woman President

USA! USA! USA!

Also, the wording seems kind of weird. Based on these polls, Bachmann, who ran for president, would be in the 37%/14% because she doesn't believe the country is ready for a female president, when obviously she believes a woman can do the job.

Right. That's what people were making fun of and calling her a moron for. Not because people thought there was no sexism in this country whatsoever.

There are very few men who can handle being President. A woman can, but it has to be the right woman. Basically, it has to be one that thinks more like a man. Oddly enough, Hillary fits this mold in many respects.

lol this is an awesome post

Colin Powell could have conceivably been the first Black President, but Jesse Jackson, Alan Keyes, and Sharpton never had a chance. Hillary has a legitimate chance; Shirley Chisholm, Geraldine Ferraro, Palin, Bachmann-not so much.

I think Hillary has a great chance to win in 2016. Just thought this was a stupid argument to pick at. There are people who will never vote for a woman president, and it isn't an insignificant number of people. Pretending this fact doesn't exist doesn't change reality. Carry on.

But those people would never have voted for her or a Dem anyway. Thus it is insignificant.
