i am 48 years old, have lived in Mecklenburg County for 21 years, and I have never been called for jury duty.

I wonder if I'm the only person on the boards to have received a police brutality settlement.

I got fucked around with by some cops when I was 19 in Atlanta, but never crossed my mind to do anything about it at the time

saw the police do a lot of shit in Atlanta

wife and I both got summons for Buncombe in May but since the courts are closed they said we're excused. hopefully it means we go to the back of the list and not recalled soon when the courts open.

Did like 8 days of jury duty in Hillsborough 9/10 years ago that was an illuminating experience the first few days, then turned into a slog. I was one of the first 12 in the box and just didn't make it out -- I think only two people were excused. It was a case that should never have gone to trial, just a construction/contract dispute over an addition to a home.

Interesting experience, though. And I got PAID.

likewise never been called for jury duty

I got called once in Guilford county (I've been summoned in several other counties, but always after I had moved out of the county). I had gone to undergrad with the prosecutor (congrats on the sex), so I was excused. I played it super cool in the jury box.

Called like clockwork every 2 years here. Only served once. DUI case where the guy claimed he was the passenger. We saw through that BS real quick. Turns out it was his 3rd DUI so off to jail he went.

Probably framed by the crooked police.

so i have been left the smoking remains of my elderly father in law's insolvent business to make some sense of and to hand off to the lawyers to tell a bunch of people that they aren't getting anything out of a rock. This was 50/60 hours I would rather spend doing something else.

Old people need to trust their kids at some point to make their financial decisions for them. We (me and my brother) took over my parents finances for the last 5/6 years of their lives and made much better decisions than they would have ever made.

Truth.

My dad has unclaimed property in 3 states I still need to get. A good ole bank account he left $10k in like 40 years ago.

you should have killed him at a young age like BKF did, taking over his empire and growing it to heights never again seen in randleman, NC

When my grandfather passed away dealing with the estate was a wild ride, especially cleaning out the house. In the hospital he kept claiming we had to get the key over and over, which apparently was to a safety deposit box he didnt tell anyone about. Eventually found hidden in a vent while cleaning the house, also while cleaning found 3,000 in cash hidden in various place like inside a speaker and an extensive DVD porn collection (he knew how to use the internet). He was the president of his gun club/range and had two guns safes, only one that anyone knew about. Also enough ammunition to probably fight a small war, so definitely bought into the they are going to take my guns and ammo talk. Also against advice, because they are old, my father gathered and transported all the guns and ammo back to his house a few states away.

I did 3 or 4 day tour in Winston-Salem. It was quite illuminating, but I'm not itching to go back any time soon (read: ever).

Mine was a drug case, chiefly about the manufacturing and distribution of cocaine within 1,000 feet of a school. We got an unexpected bonus round, too, for habitual offender status.

I’ve never had jury duty. Got called once when in college but was excused and with the one during coronavirus. Wife got on a murder trial in DC. Ironically, her work asked her to defer a month because her original summons was for the last day of school. So she went in July, got on the murder trial and missed the first few weeks of school in the fall.
