Stupid Boomers killed off downtowns with their big box stores, and now all we want are places to live where we can walk to amenities and not drive anywhere. Its almost like the original idea of a downtown district would have been timeless if people weren't so greedy.

Also, Greenville just passed a new zoning code that is pretty great imo. I think I’ve hated on the city in the past, but mostly due to the rankings of “best downtown” or whatever that they probably paid for.

But, being away from it now, I do think I would be open to moving back. Mom had a place in the north main area that was awesome that would be really cool to live in but it’s $texas.

kid has mostly done okay on his first trip

the road trip portion was actually probably the easiest, dude handled the two 4-5 hr car rides like a champ. buuuuut they jacked up his nap schedule bad enough that he was straight up miserable for a full day once we got down here. probably didn't help having a bunch of wife's family + friends trying to hang out with him, but he seems to be more or less back in his normal chill rhythm today

went to a dope jambalaya place yesterday. going to get some CRAWFISH in a little bit. i think i could live entirely off of cajun food.

Some of my favorite downtowns for small/medium sized cities:

Alexandria, VA
McKinney, TX
Portsmouth, NH
Burlington, VT
Santa Barbara, CA

only real miserable part of the trip so far is with wife's adopted parents -- they aren't vaxxed, so they're the only set of parents out of 3 that hadn't met baby. we told them before we came that we'd be fine if they took at home tests when we got there if they wanted to hold him or whatever, which apparently her mom said was fine. we get to their house, her dad's not home, but her mom takes the test, negative, cool, she takes the baby. he comes home and my wife is like "hey shove this swab up your nose" and the dude straight up refuses. says "we'd get the same result if we ran it under the faucet"

he's kind of an asshole (maga dude who is, obviously, extremely anti-vax) but he's generally been nice to me (and has even taken the time to hear out to some of my SOCIALIST TALKING POINTS OH GOD), and he's done a ton for her, so i'm not really gonna push it, though i did take a shot at him for it when he was trying to talk to me about his campaign for state senate (which he is running in as an independent)

just sucks because i know my wife wanted him to be able to chill with baby. we went back over there for dinner last night and as we left she told me she was bummed that he acted sort of cold to him. just sort of a shitty situation

I've been casually looking for a new job for a while now and I have a couple that I'm really interested in that seem to be slow-playing me.

And then there is this other one that is literally the exact same job that I do now, just with a different firm... And they made me an offer that is exactly what I am doing now. Feels like it'd be bad to make such a lateral move after only 18 months at my current firm.

Not really looking for advice... Just puzzled.

almost out of grading hell just keep pounding

It's TACO night in the DF2009 household, though I think I'm just gonna fix myself a big ol' taco salad. Craving an entire head of iceberg lettuce in this heat.
