Clemson kickoff set for 3:30

I help coach my sons travel ball team and the guy I coach with who does like Wake, is a Clemson fan first. So when the Big Orange machine comes to town for football and baseball, you guessed it, he's wearing orange. Don't think he cares too much for basketball. Otherwise he does attend Wake sporting events and will wear Wake stuff. It stings yes but I suppose that's how it is with a lot of folks. I would love to know how many Clemson fans were at the game Saturday that bought season tickets for that one game or were given tickets by Wake folks to attend said game.

It was the 5th straight home game. I'm sure plenty of fans, even diehard Wake fans, sold their tickets or gave them away. That's a ridiculous grind to open the season.

I think it was ridiculously unfair for us to have 5 straight home games for various reasons. 3 straight should be the max in my opinion.

This schedule was fucked from the start. Three Thursday night games and five straight home games. And having to play a home game at 5:30 on a Thursday night that prevented many Wake fans from attending. Just to be clear I'm not correlating the screwed up schedule with our poor play. It has been an unfortunate season for fans and players.

Had to remind myself we only have two home games left. It's a weird setup

Well, the 5:30 start isn't anybody's fault except Hurricane Florence. However, I also do not like the fact we will have had 2 Saturday to Thursday turnarounds, BC and State. Of course I know it was the same turnaround for BC and I assume State doesn't have a bye the Saturday we play them, but having 2 in the same season is not good.

I'm probably being a conspiracy theorist, but I think when the league is working out the schedule's the attitude "is if we have to screw LOWF to make it work, so be it."

Yeah, State hosts FSU that Saturday before, so they're in action as well.

Glad Panthers-Steelers is that night too so I don't have to watch Finley roast us too closely

When I saw that stretch of little travel we had, I assumed we had won the scheduling lottery and could take advantage for once. I didn’t think about it from the season ticket holder perspective.

I thought the same thing. Sometimes I forget some folks are coming from a long way out to see the Deacs play.

Worst I can remember. But I have a short memory.

Heck yeah, we beat down the Paladins in front of 7,800 rowdy fans at Groves baby!!!

pretty sure that win over the Paladins was controversial, as it came on a very late touchdown in which our receiver caught the ball falling forward. His toes were in the endzone but the ball allegedly never was

and hey, only 13,200 Clemson fans made the trip for their game in Groves that year

I don't think it's unreasonable to call this past weekend's game the worst ever; it's certainly in the conversation

I looked up the 59-3 FSU game from 2013 - they scored 59 points on fewer than 300 yards of offense (WF had 7 turnovers)

Deacs scored 74 pts FOR THE YEAR! Omg. 0 for October, 7 over two months.

My recollection is that the controversy happened on the last play of the game. A Furman receiver caught a bomb and may or may not have been knocked out of bounds at the one yard line. He was ruled out and the game ended.

Worst Wake game I ever saw in person was Wake and Duke in 1978 (I believe). We lost 3-0 and, if I remember correctly, neither team penetrated the other's red zone.

Yeah, at least the BC game a few years ago we won 3-0, really would suck to lose 3-0.

That FSU game was when Grobe chose to kick a FG behind 52-0 and inside the 10 yard line, instead of letting the boys try to score a TD. FSU then ran the kickoff back for a TD to make it 59-3. It was hilarious, I've never laughed so hard at a football game.

The crazy thing about that game was we held FSU to their lowest total yardage output of the season, the defense played really good. Our offense just kept turning the ball over.

That's a new tactic for me. Turn the ball over, so you can turn their 80 yard drives into 20 yard drives - thereby reducing their overall yardage. Moral victory!

Actually the defense did really play well that day. It was a shame the offense was so overmatched and terrible, because the our guys on defense played their hearts out.
