Summon forth the QAnon loons - both the "chip implant" nuts and the anti-vaxxers.

they seem like such evil people, right GOP?

Update.

Just got my results and as expected, tested negative. Took a full 7 days.

Yeah, one of my students has to wait for 14 days. And I live in a non-crazy state that doesn't have a crazy surge.

Driving through SC today, stopped near Gaffney to buy some local peaches. As we drove up to the stand, no one was wearing a mask...customers nor dude and daughter (granddaughter?) running the place.

We donned masks and as we approached, the dude put on his mask and went on a perpetual rant about how this pandemic wasn’t near as bad as that thar h1n1 flu we experienced under Obammy an’ we dint haf t’ wear no masks ‘n’ go through all this hullabaloo back then. On and on...just a danged conspiracy tha’s going to end on November 3rd...(?). The daughter or granddaughter chimed in about the ridiculousness of anticipating having to wear a mask in school.

Wild shit.

But we bought some peaches.

It's pretty amazing that people can live through H1N1 and live through COVID and claim H1N1 was worse because that's what conservative media told them.

For the record, far more people have died from COVID already than died from one year of H1N1.

Covid has had over 12 times the fatalities in the United States compared to H1N1 in less than half the time.

https://www.cdc.gov/flu/pandemic-resources/2009-h1n1-pandemic.html

“From April 12, 2009 to April 10, 2010, CDC estimated there were 60.8 million cases (range: 43.3-89.3 million), 274,304 hospitalizations (range: 195,086-402,719), and 12,469 deaths (range: 8868-18,306) in the United States due to the (H1N1)pdm09 virus.

Additionally, CDC estimated that 151,700-575,400 people worldwide died from (H1N1)pdm09 virus infection during the first year the virus circulated.** Globally, 80 percent of (H1N1)pdm09 virus-related deaths were estimated to have occurred in people younger than 65 years of age. “

Wash those peaches.

Wash those peaches.

We went peach picking in Henderson county. 75% of the customers had on masks and most of the staff. Except the guy out at the trees. He was talking that masks were proved to be useless, that sweden never used masks and have herd immunity now.... but then came the kicker: you can catch legionaires disease by wearing the mask. Luckily most of the people just kind of politely nodded at this.

Whenever some dumbfuck likes to say how masks cause asphyxiation or lack of brain function or whatever kindly remind them that surgeons seem to be able to do their jobs just fine with them on.

Dude at the peach stand informed us of this frightening news as well!!

All is well in the shire:

I can only imagine how difficult it must be for parents making the decision on whether to send their child to school.
So many reasons why it is important but if mine were young, there's no way they are going.

But think of the judges we got!

I’m pretty sure a country the size of the US with actual borders to other countries couldn’t replicate what New Zealand has done, but we’d be a lot closer to Europe with decent federal leadership.

So, then why don’t they blame Trump for taking our freedoms away? Seems like they disagree with Trump and agree with Obama.

No doubt. If we had an even halfway decent POTUS and competent administration we would have had a national, federal response to the crisis from the beginning - mandates about producing enough masks and ventilators and other supplies, federal coordination of state responses and pressure on those states that proved recalcitrant, different administration teams to deal with schools and colleges, hospitals and medical centers, etc. No need for states or cities to have to compete to get necessary supplies, or the kind of chaotic, rambling, incoherent state-by-state, city-by-city response that we've watched over these past several months. This is what happens when you have an utterly unqualified and incompetent POTUS who sees his job as that of a political entertainer and his administration as a reality-tv show and opportunity for massive grift by his family and cronies. Some internet article a couple of months ago put it best when it said that we are basically living in a failed nation-state.

Damn. When ignorant right wing assholes (yes, it’s pretty much only republicans, so fuck you 2&2) try to tell you about the Swedish expert, tell them to look up New Zealand before they say another word to you.

It’s hard to argue with a death cult by saying NZ saved lives and Sweden allowed people to die.
