Donald Impeachment

There’s nothing Roberts could do to sway Senate Republicans. But there’s plenty he could do to suppress evidence that would sway voters. He’s not going to rock the boat.

I don't think he'll withhold a bunch of evidence or witnesses. He does need to. There is already more than enough evidence (and so much more smoke) of kkkorrupt shit he's done to convict him. They just don't care.

Who actually calls the vote? McConnell? What stops him from just calling it right away before evidence is even presented?

The votes are functionally cast, all that matters is what gets on the record.

All of us are going to see commercials for senate races with quotes for a year. The GOP will implore their base to continue to hold the line in the senate protecting the leader of their party, and dems will talk about the importance of keeping him in check. Ultimately, until next year, ain’t nothing gon happen.

This is likely a dumb question but do Republicans still defending Donald honestly believe that they are on the right side of history or are they just caught up in owning the libs and refusing to give into "PC culture?" In other words, do they actually think that history will avail their theory that this is a deep state coup and that Donald will actually be celebrated in hindsight by objective historians or does this never even cross their minds?

Not to be condescending, but this might be the easiest question asked on this thread.

There will absolutely be a show trial. They won't really care what comes out. Most likely it will be everything the dems come out with now. Their voters don't care and the senators will keep the same line "not great but not impeachable." If moscow mitch is smart he'll extract something from the donald as payment. #MoarBribery

Depends on how you define “power.” He doesn’t decide facts, but I’d say the authority to determine whether someone like a John Bolton must testify is “power.”

Sorry if this has been answered. I am a bit behind. Who decides what punishment is if Bolton refuses?

Nah, Donald Trump doesn’t lie and is clean. All a witch hunt and coincidence all the people he’s hired are being investigated and/or in jail.

Fear of voter feedback in purple and near purple states.

Lol. Republicans have structural advantages in the Electoral College, the Senate, and the House of Representatives. Democrats have won the popular vote 4 of last 5 presidential elections, yet did not hold the presidency for 2 of those terms.

Democrats could have won the 2018 midterm election by 3% and still not held a majority thanks to now legal gerrymandering.

Court rules McGahn has to comply with the House subpoena.

Going back to Bill Clinton's first election in 92, the GOP has won the national popular vote in just 1 of the last 7 presidential elections (in 2004, and just barely even then.) It's very possible that Trump may win the EC again next year, and lose the national popular vote yet again. It's pretty hard for the GOP to argue that they have the American "people" on their side when they can't even get a plurality of the people to side with them. Not that they care - all you hear and see from GOP pols and pundits on talk shows and in right-wing articles is that the "American people" are on their side, such as in this impeachment mess. They love to claim that the "American people" aren't paying attention, or care at all about the hearings, when what they're really saying is that Republicans don't care or are paying attention. Lots of Democrats and independents certainly have been paying attention, and care very much.

The most transparent administration in us history is appealing the judge’s decision on congressional subpoenas. Mulvaney has already come out and said he won’t comply with a congressional subpoena. McGahn says he will comply unless there is an appeal.

Somebody I knew in high school has been on a rant on facebook about the Electoral College recently. Here's a sample: "The population of the greater New York City metropolitan area is just over 20 MILLION PEOPLE. The reason a lot of politicians want to do away with the Electoral College system is so they don't have to win the "series" of the best of 50 contests (best of 50 State contests). If there was no Electoral College and only the popular vote was used ..... no politician would EVER GO TO NORTH OR SOUTH CAROLINA ..... EVER ..... because the entire population in the States of North Carolina and South Carolina combined only have a population of 15 million.

Which means that a politician running for President wouldn't waste their time going to places like North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah, Idaho, Oregon, Kansas, Iowa, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Mississippi, Missouri, Louisiana, Alabama, Maine, and Delaware. They can go to all the big cities and the surrounding metropolitan areas, get those votes, and end up with more votes from just those areas ..... than with all the States I just mentioned above. Which means if you don't live in New York, Los Angeles, Houston, Atlanta, Chicago, etc., etc., (you get the idea) then you don't matter.

And "those ma'am are the facts" .....

Not only is he dead wrong about politicians never visiting NC if there were no Electoral College (as one of the 10 largest states we'd certainly still get a good deal of attention), the truth is that under the EC presidential candidates still don't visit states like SC, SD, ND, OK, etc. in fall campaigns because they're either solid red or blue, or don't have enough EC votes to count. And that's without even getting to the notion of why, if most of the people live in urban areas, in a democracy they shouldn't have the largest voice in the government, or should have to settle for being dominated by rural areas with far fewer people - an antiquated system for a 21st Century society.
