Donald Impeachment

The biggest lie in the whole thing is where he pretends he cares about members of his family and that they are capable of feeling emotions.

Trump honestly believes he did nothing wrong because he has no real concept of wrong or right and never understood the limits of the office of the President or federal government. The GOP has made sure he doesn't need either.

I don't think it's a massive risk for Dem reps who got elected because Trump sucks to vote to impeach Trump.

They're already running anti Spanberger ads here, tying her to "The squad". It's weird to me that the party that, for years, list big government as the problem is now listing all of the wonderful things Congress could be doing instead of impeaching the president.

The DCCC and the DNC need to be putting together and playing ads quoting Russian government TV stating Trump is a Russian agent. But they are too weak.

For Christ's sake, the RUSSIAN controlled TV is calling him their agent,

As I’ve said on many occasions, I think the evidence points inexorably in favor of impeachment and removal.

However, I think requiring Bolton and others to testify would have given pubs cover to vote to impeach / convict. There’s an article on CNN right now quoting McConnell as arguing house dems didn’t call witnesses with enough personal knowledge to sustain the case and pubs aren’t going to fix their mistakes. I think that’s bullshit, but it’s an easy argument for senate pubs to hide behind and dems shouldn’t have given it to them.

The witnesses called had plenty of first hand knowledge of the events in question. Bolton was just another guy in the room.

Do you even believe what you’re writing? You’re just clinging to impossible hypotheticals. Additionally your whole argument is simply blaming the Dems for not forcing the GOP to be adults with spines. How pathetic.

Have you called your senator and expressed your opinion?

The cognitive dissonance is infinite.

I don't think it's weird so much as just another example of total GOP hypocrisy. They haven't tried to cut deals with Democrats since at least Obama took office. To the contrary, McConnell and his ilk have done everything possible to avoid including Democrats on anything, or giving them anything. This whole "government could be doing so much else instead of this impeachment foolishness" is just another lie and campaign spin for their base. After the Senate trial they'll go back to their usual blocking and cutting Democrats out of the process.

Exactly. There’s no response to this. As if Bolton’s testimony would move the needle more than Mike Pence’s side, a decorated Purple Heart colonel, or trumps hand picked ambassador. Good lord. If they didn’t move the needle, why the hell would Bolton? Silly.

And yea, Junebug, what are you personally doing about your discontent with your party?

Republicans know the Junebugs aren’t going anywhere. Anybody who hasn’t left yet isn’t going anywhere.

Junebug, I’m sure you could call Tillis and voice your concerns and they’d jot your name down or something. But when they come back in July and say “Can we count on your support to defeat the Democrats and their socialist agenda?” they know they can count on you.

Could Rudy be setting himself up to be Trump's fall guy? And then get pardoned?

Not sure if either are that... smart?... dolt 45 does have a certain low cunning. Then again they are both dumb enough to get pardoned for federal crimes while forgetting the state can still destroy him.

Three months from the time Nixon filed suit to the decision. Late April to July 24.

Kupperman filed suit on October 26. Three months is late January.

Also, US v Nixon was decided when lawyers and law clerks used books, typewriters, and lacked teams of associates chomping at the bit to participate in something like this. There is no doubt this would’ve taken less time than a similar issue in 1974.

Look, I get that the dems didn’t want the impeachment drama to take coverage away from their primary. That’s a fine political calculation, but compromising principles has consequences. You’re going to have a hard time convincing the country with testimony from civil servants the vast majority of the populous has never heard of.

We have a memo from the White House documenting our President asking a foreign leading for a favor to use against his political opponents. Everyone willing to testify confirmed the President was using US aid money to pay for the favors. If it wasn’t true, the White House would have provided fact witnesses to dispute it. More witnesses isn’t going to convince anyone that isn’t already convinced by the White House’s own edited “transcript”. If you don’t think, or admit, the President bribed Ukraine with US government $ for his own personal/political advantage, nothing will convince you. The pubs were never going to acknowledge this. You were wrong. Stop making dumbass excuses.

No it isn’t. Read the White House memo. They aren’t going to be swayed by a disgruntled Bolton who just wants to get back at the President that fired him. Bolton is out now.

The evidence is inexorably in favor of impeachment but we are going to ignore it because the Dems should have to wait (for more of the exact same testimony)? You aren’t making reasonable arguments.

Also, it is a shame the Senate can’t call any witnesses.
The house will find enough evidence to impeach. It is the Senate’s job to try the case. That involves calling witnesses. This isn’t on the Dems. If the Republicans think they need more witnesses, then call them. In normal legal process, we don’t stop talking to witnesses once someone is charged. If pubs need the cover of Bolton testimony, then call Bolton if you have any interest in doing the right thing. But that is the point you are not acknowledging, they have no interest in doing the right thing. None.
