Dortch leaving for NFL

Dortch 4-20-1 on 6 targets, 3 punt ret for 42 yards, long 32.

By the way, his competition at WR Tim White had no catches on 4 targets.

On his first catch for about four yards as he was tackled the Connelly for the Giants(I think) knocked the ball out of his arm but the Jets recovered. They left him on the field which I thought was a good sign.

Wearing #2 somehow makes him look even more diminutive. But his size is an advantage in plays like that because he’s so slippery and hard to keep track of.

post-preseason game 1 from the Athletic's 53-man roster projection:

RECEIVER (7)
Makes the cut: Robby Anderson, Quincy Enunwa, Jamison Crowder, Deontay Burnett, Josh Bellamy, Greg Dortch, Charone Peake
Gets cut: J.J. Jones, Jeff Smith, Deonte Thompson, Tim White

Analysis: The Dortch-White battle will be an interesting one to monitor throughout the rest of the preseason. Dortch gets the leg up after the first game. He showed some promise as a receiver (four catches, 20 yards, touchdown), but it was his 32-yard punt return that had to make the Jets happy. They’re desperately looking to replace Andre Roberts, whom they elected not to re-sign after an all-pro 2018.

Peake sticks around another year. He brings nothing on offense, but he’s that good on special teams. Brant Boyer will do everything he can to make sure he’s not cut.

STOCK UP

PR/WR Greg Dortch: Dortch’s best chance to make this team is as the punt returner. So making it through the first game without any hiccups on that front is a big first step. The fact that he was able to mix in a 32-yard return is gravy. So is the fact that he chipped in with a late touchdown grab, too. He finished with four catches for 20 yards. Proving that he’s capable of contributing in that area can only help his case.

He's so small the defense can't see him

more positives

from nj.com:

The undrafted rookie out of Wake Forest is quite clearly leading the Jets’ punt-return battle. That’s the reason he was signed, for starters. And he handled those duties beautifully in the first half of Thursday night’s game. He looked comfortable catching the ball and busted off a 32-yard return, too. He’s pencilled into that job and should remain there, so long as he doesn’t start muffing punts over the next few weeks.

How good is the Jets' D? Pretty good, right, as in Dortch will be fielding lots of punts?
