Always looking for some new ideas. Here's one of about a half of dozen Mai Tai recipes I have:

From Maui Matt ( Phoenix)
1 oz Bacardi light rum
1 oz orange Curacao
Splash sour mix
Splash orgeat syrup
Fill with pineapple juice
Float 1 oz dark rum
 
Pacific Dawg

1 bottle Malibu Coconut Rum
1 bottle Malibu Pineapple Rum
1 bottle Welch's White Grape Peach Juice (although the regular White Grape will do in a pinch).

Mix in pitcher, serve over ice, take glass & go walk on beach...
 
Buckets old fashioned:

Sugar cube in glass
Coat w agnostura bitters
Splash of soda water
Drip of cherry juice
Meddle it all up
Pour in rye
Add ice
Stir one full turn
Drop in a cherry
 
Bourbon Slush

6 cups of water
2 tea bags brewed in 2 cups of hot water
2 cups of bourbon
6 ounces of frozen orange juice concentrate
12 ounces of frozen lemonade concentrate

Put in plastic pitcher or ziplock bag and freeze overnight (or just make some at the beginning of summer and pull out a bag whenever you're ready)

This summer Ive been all over Pimms Cups and the Aperol Smash. Im not really one for super exact drink recipes since everyone has different taste and tolerance, but both are basically like this:

Pimms Cupp

2oz Pimms No. 1
.5 oz of Gin
Fresh Lemon Juice (from about a half a lemon)
Club Soda (can substitute sprite of ginger ale)
Garnish with Cucumber, Lemon Wedge and sprig of Thyme

Aperol Smash

2oz ketel one
2oz Aperol Bitters
crushed fresh mint
crushed green grapes (2-4)
fresh lemon juice


Both are great for summer drinking and neither are too sweet. or girly.

Made these on Sunday. Too sweet for my taste, but I was also ridiculously hungover at the time, so that may have had something to do with it.
 
My favorite current drink:

The Getaway (Derek Brown)

1 ounce Cruzan Black Strap Rum
1/2 ounce Cynar
1 ounce lemon juice
1/2 ounce Simple Syrup

Combine in Cocktail Shaker with Ice, strain into martini glass
 
Margarita

1 can (12oz) of frozen limeade concentrate
1 can (12oz) of beer
1/2 can (6 oz) of tequila, or more if you like it real strong

Serve on the rocks, makes four drinks
 
I posted this on another thread, but this summer for me is going to be all about the Negronis. Very refreshing on a hot day.

1 part gin
1 part sweet vermouth
1 part Campari
orange or lemon peel twist

ETA: I typically like mine on the rocks, but most nice bars typically serve them up unless otherwise instructed.

  • 1 bottle Malibu Mango
  • 1 bottle Malibu Pineapple
  • 1 bottle Malibu Coconut
  • Several cans of pineapple chunks, drained
  • 1-2 jars marschino cherries, drained
Pour into a large container (like the one on the right, below), serve over ice with a few pieces of the fruit

that's a lotta malibu, ever cut it with some vodka or something? perhaps some everclear?

Townie is also an experienced OSD Punch drinker as well...I do not like sweet, umbrella type drinks, and although this sounds like one, it is not...just a good refreshing punch when the weather is warm.
