DT comments at press conference ?

I saw Meeks on the All-ACC honorable mention list and was curious how many "no-shows" had compared to Devin.

He had 6 ACC games of single digit points and rebounds. Devin had 7 ACC games of single digit points and rebounds. Worst 3 were 2,4,4 points and 0,2,3 points respectively. Meeks scored 20 points or more in zero ACC games. Devin had 4. Meeks also had, to put it mildly, far more help inside than Devin did. Devin was on an island all year.
Meeks' Offensive Rating: 115.5
Devin's Offensive Rating: 93.2, 3rd lowest on the team (excluding Rondale)

Meeks' FG%: 56.8%
Devin's FG%: 49.5%

Meeks' turnovers/40 minutes: 2.5
Devin's turnovers/40 minutes: 4.4

Meeks is the better defender, too. Add in that Devin is probably the most hated player around the ACC, and I don't think you should have expected him to be making any All-ACC team or honorable mention this year.

Remember the free throw lane violation was not his fault because we did miss other free throws. Don't worry that we lost by 1 point, that is beside the point.

Two things make Devin an All-ACC candidate next year. First, fix the attitude without losing the intensity. Second, Collins and (hopefully) Moore helping inside. He got doubled against VaTech and for maybe the first time all year Rountree cut to the opposite block - Devin hit him for a dunk. If Collins can do that with some consistency it could make a huge difference.

Put another way, Meeks scored 20 or more points in a UNC conference victory zero times. Thomas scored 20 or more points in a Wake conference victory zero times.

Looking forward to watching a great senior year for DT and revisiting the #hottakes on this thread.

It will be more of the same . He will look great against teams with no rim protector to frustrate his below the rim , left handed moves . He will face double teams unless we bring In a true shooting guard. He will be an enigma . He will shoot close to 50% from the line . Only if we get significant help from Moore and Collins early and often will life be easier for DT. I hope that happens.

We tend to overrate Devin because he's arguably our best player. The best player on a bad team is still not a great player. The only WFU exception I could think of would be Muggsy. He was a great player on some really bad teams. His greatness actually made the other player look as bad as they actually were.

He's still pretty much the same player he was when he got to Wake, despite having far more playing experience than many rising seniors since he's been relied on from day 1. I just don't see him somehow making a bug jump next season if it didn't come after year 1 or year 2. Though he has plenty of skills he could add to his game with Manning's help, getting his head right is the bigger, and harder to solve, issue. He's been #[name redacted]ed...not many recover from that.

It won't help him that Manning is upgrading our talent and may be willing to play the long game, getting his recruits more time on the court, especially if Devin continues to be unreliable. With the next class being critical, Manning may want to be able to point to his freshmen getting minutes while out on the recruiting trail.
