Is an isolationist someone who believes that the Koreans ought to work out their differences, NATO had no business in Libya and what happens in Ukraine is not exactly a national security threat to the US of A?

Pretty much. Remember that the Pub party was quite isolationist heading into WW2 - hence my reference to the 1st half of the 20th century. He apparently may have a difficult time explaining when we should be involved militarily abroad at all. Like Rand Paul.

The Dim Party got us into WWI and WWII. As for the loaded term isolationist, I prefer to call it non-interventionist. The worst case of rhetorical interventionism lately was when Obama told the British what was good for them regarding the European Union.

It actually matters quite a lot because Ukraine voluntarily gave up their nuclear arsenal (at the time the 3rd largest in the world) in exchange for the nuclear powers guaranteeing their territorial sovereignty.

Those guarantees now were obviously complete bullshit and worth nothing, so it's very difficult for the USA to look at other aspirational nuclear powers (say: Iran) and say that they don't need nuclear arms to guarantee their sovereignty.
