Will we have get anything out of the Nease boys?

Probably not. The over-reliance on Nease and Bolles kids was a mistake imo, and probably what Curry was complaining about when he complained about "political recruiting."

Gallagher's career is over because of an injury, so tough to place fault there. I think Souza will contribute the next two years. Booi is an interesting case. He was a big recruit, but on the offensive line. We only got him because we said he could play defense, where he really isn't suited to play.

Wasn't Newman like top 25 in field goals and top 30 in accuracy this year? Not in the ACC - in the country?

Geez, I should start proofreading my posts.

The Nease/Bolles players tend to have maxed out by the time they get here.

Apparently everyone is remembering Newman having a better year than myself. So here are his stats:

So he ended the year hitting 17-of-22 FGs (77.7%) and went 39-41 on XPs (95.1%). Not bad, in fact that's a pretty good year.

However is his last five games he went 3 of 7, including two misses inside 40 yards. I guess that's why I'm so down on him.

That being said he's done more than enough to keep his starting PK spot next season. As others have said, hopefully someone can step up and take the kickoff duties so he can concentrate on returning to his early season form.

Does that blocked kick count as a miss?

Yes. But I somewhat blame Newman for the block, he kicked it pretty damn low.

It wasn't blocked at the line of scrimmage. The DL was halfway back to the kicker if not more. That was a blocking breakdown.

Probably not. The over-reliance on Nease and Bolles kids was a mistake imo, and probably what Curry was complaining about when he complained about "political recruiting."

With that kind of hindsight you ought to do real well for yourself.

Alabama and LSU and told Ramon (at different points of his recruiting) that they'd take him as an OL. WF indeed gave him the chance@ DT.

No doubt he is an athlete and I've seen him move like a guy who could make a real difference at NT....but I have wasted enough ink on Ramon. It's on him now and if he wants to move his butt he can make a contribution as a SR...

I'm more optimistic about Souza. He was steady late in the season and is another rising JR. Teams like Auburn offered Frank for his Hollywood good-looks -- but really, the guy is a Florida powerlifting champion and accomplished wrestler...he is 6'3-295...he has the tools. It has to be the "squash". So Frank, get your head on straight and get on the same page with the old man and lets see what you can make of your last 2 and most important years as a Deacon!

Redding will emerge...he is the classic Grobe 2 star. Remember, 2 stars like Jyles Tucker emerged after (A) 3 years in the program and (B) wanting to transfer to a lower division. Jyles Tucker didn't do squat until midway his JR year. What Redding needs is a great off-season in the weight room. Get after it Kris!

And PH, I'll not use the youth of the OL as an excuse. In my time I've not seen a group (not 1 or 2) with an aggressive attitude like these guys. This group is BIG, vocal, and motivated in the weight room.

* The luck for the WF line prospects turned a few years ago when WF lost a 2 star recruit from mid-Ohio named Jeff Tanner. Jeff had become representative of the norm...undersized (like Justice,Lingruen,Nenon,Vallos, etc.) but with lots of desire. When Tanner decommitted the Deacs then turned to Broughton H.S. product Colin Summers. Summers was just emerging as a prospect and still growing. The Deacs offered the 6'4-300 pounder and today he goes a shade over 6'5 and 325 pounds and with a fiery temperment. That year, when WF got the under-rated but big- bodied kids Heartsill (6'5-310) and Blitch (6'6-320), has proven to be a "lucky" strike as all 3 kids have panned out. ** Heartsill is recovering from back surgery some 6 months ago and is recovering nicely according to reports.

The next recruiting season proved to be as strong or stronger w/ Preble, Goodwin, & Intemann .

I don't disagree with the potential of our "new"OL. But it makes we me wonder if the are indeed THAT good, why they were never given some snaps this year- seems there was opportunity. Then again, on offense, we seem not to be very prone to build depth, keep players motivated and in the game; see RB before all the sh*t started this year. I put this on EL Lobo.

Summers did all year long, but looking at the participation charts as I don't trust what I see or remember :) from the stands, there wasn't much going on for most of the season.

Does Blitch have the mobility to play tackle? He makes me nervous. Big guy. Not sure about his hips.

Yes. He is a great replacement for Weaver. Strong, with lots of drive to excel.

Yes. But I somewhat blame Newman for the block, he kicked it pretty damn low.

I'm assuming this is sarcasm since the guy almost blocked the placement, let alone the kick.

Watch it again. The linemen who blocked it literally just walked over our blocker and ran straight at the kicker. He wasn't halfway from the line of scrimmage: He could have shaken Jimmy's hand if he wanted to. Jimmy should not feel bad at all over that blocked kick: That was all on the line.
