Future OOC Football Schedules (Updated with ACC games through 2026)

Fuck that - Wake should never play another game against App as there is zero reason to ever agree to another football game in Boone, NC.

Zip, zilch, nada

Currie openly discussed this topic just a few weeks ago with Stan during pre-game. He mentioned renewing a series with App during the interview. In fact, I think he even threw out some dates.

Boone is a great place to travel early in the fall, good food and beer in the area, nice stadium. I'm in favor of playing App every other year.

Apparently other programs get credit for beating App now too.

Yeah whether or not folks like the idea, it feels pretty solid that we're going to get a couple more matchups at a minimum against App.

Also not sure App is gonna be as much of a problem as they have been in the past, they seem to be slowly becoming just another FBS team. Coastal and maybe now JMU have stolen their thunder

Seems odd to say given the successes App’s had this season. Should’ve beaten Miami last year too.

And just got blown out @ Texas State. That wouldn't have happened a few years back. Def showing signs of a slow yet steady decline under Clark

I have no problem playing in state G5 opponents - fun games and good banter. The Old Dominion/Rice types are two birds one stone: games that theoretically should be a win (sorry VPI) and also take us to a recruiting hotbed
And ODU brings the beach into play.

Makes sense. Now we need a Week 1 opponent for 2026.

Yeah 2027 opponent was always going to be a home FCS game unless we moved something around on the Tulane front.

Phillips encouraging ACC teams not to play away games at shit G5 teams like App.

Coming off a year in which the ACC played 10 road games at non-Power 5 opponents — and lost three of them — schools received new guidance from the league office: Don’t. While the nonconference portions of the schedules to be released Monday are often set years if not decades in advance, the ACC has asked schools to schedule most, if not all, of their future nonconference road games at either Power 5 teams or Army.
In September, Wake Forest canceled a home-and-home with FBS independent Liberty in part because of the ACC’s guidance, Wake athletic director John Currie confirmed. The Deacons were supposed to go to Lynchburg in 2025 and host the Flames in 2026. “The 2025 date is a possibility to make up the Appalachian State home game postponed during the COVID-2020 season,” Currie said in a press release last fall. “In 2026 we travel to both Purdue and Army, so our focus for our remaining dates that year will be on home games.”

That will be easier to do if Phillips can negotiate better TV contracts.

WF is currently committed to play:

2023 @ ODU
2024 @ Army
2026 @ Army
2027 @ ECU
2028 @ UCONN
2030 @ GA State

One positive scheduling note:

In 2024 Ole Miss visits WF and in 2025 the Deacs head to the Grove.

That will be easier to do if Phillips can negotiate better TV contracts.

Yeah, but it's also a chicken/egg problem. It's not easy to sell Va Tech at ODU to any network, and it's even more stale when it's a game that's being played two or three times.

The money to buy OOC games comes from the revenue from ACC games in the contract, right? And that contract supports other sports. The football team playing at Army or ODU means other sports get that $500K to a million.

But sure, Phillips can solve all that by putting together an ACC-Pac-12 challenge and selling the rights for enough to buyout those road G5 games.
