Hunter Sallis

It makes the job that the staff has consistently done in the portal all that more remarkable. Somehow, they are able to identify, based on often limited game tape, players who would excel in our system.

This is now the third year in a row that they’ve been able to take a minimally used player at another school and unlock their potential so significantly that the player becomes an ACC player of the year candidate.

Pretty amazing when you think that most of the recruiting services had Sallis as somewhere between 90-160 as a transfer portal prospect prior to the season. He clearly worked really hard and found a coach and team that let him unlock his talent.
He clearly had no weight to lose to start with, but photos progression indicate he’s a lot stronger now and his face leaner. His work in S & C here shows.

Crazy that a player ranked #21 in his class wasn’t even a consensus top 100 transfer two years later because he was a backup in some good teams.

I don’t know much about what Gonzaga’s roster was like. Were the guys he was sitting behind also top 50 guys?

It seems like he was behind some really strong players his first two seasons but would have been a much bigger piece this year. He probably would have had a great season either place but obviously Forbes has the track record of unlocking these guys. Despite his struggles recently Boopie is also a major success story stepping up a level and obviously should be even better next year. We should be on the list for pretty much any transfer guard.

One thing that has really surprised about Sallis is his 3PT shooting. He shot in the mid 20s from 3 in two seasons at Gonzaga and is at nearly 44% this year as the focal point of the opposing defense. It has really taken him to a new level.

Feels like Beekman is really riding his reputation if he makes 1st team All ACC IMO. Understand he’s the defensive stopper but his offensive numbers are pretty average.

Sallis is just a total joy to watch. Good handle. Nice outside shot. Good off the dribble. BEAUTIFUL mid range pull up shot, a lost art. Can take it hard to the rim. Nice on the glass. I have no data to back this up but he's not a great passer but thats about it. Just a total package of a player.

He’s so efficient. He could’ve missed 7 more shots yesterday and still would’ve played a great game
