Is Atheism Irrational?

Not to any self respecting atheist.

We can observe the rest of the universe and from those observations create theories about its nature. How do you think we know where the edge of the observable universe is?

We can't observe a supernatural being and we have no evidence that one has ever existed. It isn't really that hard to figure out.

Except the shroud.

The Shroud says otherwise.

Oh man, I love this.

That article is so fucking loaded with God Damn Bullshit that one hardly knows where to begin.

Science on the shroud is settled by the Nuclear Physicists from the Fermi lab.

It was not made by man. We are certain of that.
That is a pretty bold statement. Was it made by Pokemon?

Hold up, I thought settled science was a myth?

Science on the shroud is settled by the Nuclear Physicists from the Fermi lab.

It was not made by man. We are certain of that.

Wait, are you saying that we are certain that the shroud was not made by man?

Hold up, I thought settled science was a myth?

You are mixing politics and pleasure. Al Gore and his ilk are driving the climate debate. This is a pretty sound scientific debate. Outside of Walter McCrone most of the fight has been bare knuckled but fair. As far as I can tell.

Wait, are you saying that we are certain that the shroud was not made by man?

I believe that if you look at the blood science, textile, every manner of photographic evidence, etc., the Fermi physicists ruled out every method known and concluded that the image had to have been made by a flash of light. They also said we don't have such a light producing instrument...yet.

So Lectro, if in fact the science is settled and the shroud of Turin was not made by man, why isn't this a big fucking deal? Another massive political conspiracy?

The Title of this "Independent" (the newspaper) says :

"Scientists Say Turin Shroud is Supernatural"

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/science/scientists-say-turin-shroud-is-supernatural-6279512.html

It is pretty cool to watch the 2013 youtube of the lead researcher at Fermi as he gives the findings to a German audience via translator. He is giving the talk in English with his Italian accent and at the 8:00 minute mark he says "the only known way to make such an image is by a coronal mass ejection."

^ that's some bad ass shit, yo.

Again, if it's so clearly supernatural, why isn't this a gigantic deal?

here is the pertinent ENEA paper: http://opac.bologna.enea.it:8991/RT/2011/2011_14_ENEA.pdf

unfortunately, only the Abstract is in english. all the absract claims is:

"Most importantly, we have recognized distinct physical and photo-chemical processes that account for both coloration and latent coloration. These processes may have played a role in the generation of the body image on the Shroud of Turin."

yep, that's the same as "god made it"

lol

You are a dipshit.

on lectro's planet, a dipshit is someone who actually consults the scientific paper he continuously cites.

Many disciplines have weighed in and from across the scientific spectrum those scientists actually working on the Shroud have concluded that is must have been made by some type of light.

Shroud Of Turin Real? New Research Dates Relic To 1st Century, Time Of Jesus Christ

Huffpo article above...listen to the scientist talk - literally implies hundreds of different research methods are concluding the same.

"Giulio Fanti, a professor of mechanical and thermal measurement at the University of Padua, announced the findings in a book that hit shelves Wednesday in Italy, reports Vatican Insider. Fanti has written several papers about the shroud, including one in 2011 that hypothesized how radiation could have caused the image of a man's bloody face and body to appear on the cloth.

In his most recent effort, Fanti and a research team from the University of Padua conducted three tests on tiny fibers extracted from the shroud during earlier carbon-14 dating tests conducted in 1988, according to Vatican Insider. The first two tests used infrared light and Raman spectroscopy, respectively, while the third employed a test analyzing different mechanical parameters relating to voltage.

The results date the cloth to between 300 B.C. and 400 A.D., per The Telegraph.

In an email with The Huffington Post, Fanti said that researchers also found trace elements of soil "compatible with the soil of Jerusalem."

"For me the [Shroud] comes from God because there are hundreds of clues in favor to the authenticity," he wrote, adding that there also "no sure proofs."

On your fucking planet you try and extrapolate the meaning of an entire paper out from a thumbnail excerpt.

Fuck off.
