Is it time to sit John

Think the problem is next year is whoever you name as starter you will see the other guy transfer. Can't see Kendall or John being OK w/ being a backup for 2+ seasons.

Hinton is a lot of fun to watch sometimes, but really cannot throw well. John makes those cross-field passes that Hinton consistently throws into the ground. Hinton might be a better athlete, but you aren't winning a lot of games with his arm.

Have we won a lot of games with Wolford's Arm??? Can't remember any… Thought we at least had a chance late against FSU w/ Hinton…. I absolutely hate a two quarterback approach, hurts the development/timing of both QBs. Pick one and let the other transfer.

Hinton has a good arm and will just get better, but he needs chances to do it in the games and not be a gimmick to bring in occasionally and run the ball. The QB position should be wide open between 4 guys next year and the whoever gives us the best chance should get the nod.

Start Hinton and build around him next year. Emphasize the read and move the pocket.

Redshirt Newman. Let Kearns backup Hinton.

Allow Wolford to transfer to FIU.

Wolford is better than that and it is absolutely ridiculous for you to say otherwise.

There are real questions about Kearns mobility, but if he can answer those questions there is a LOT to like about the rest of his skill set. It will be fascinating to follow the QB competition with such different QBs in the mix.

No realistic chance of Newman starting next year. Too raw. Long term I think he will be the impact player that people are hoping for.

One thing is pretty certain, even given another years improvement by the O-line, we can't have a statue back there. He doesn't have to be Hinton or even Wolford, but he's got to be able to move enough to have a shot. Riley was much better at evading the rush than most realize and he wasn't a runner by any means.

Wolford is not good enough to be a power 5 qb. he's the prototypical short qb who can put up big numbers playing at some high level fcs program.

Think back to the Army, Indiana and FSU games. Hinton was electric. Now consider the Louisville and ND games : Wolford threw 3 picks in the second half vs Lville to basically cost us the game and he cost us 14 points against ND with his two fumbles . Hinton should start the last 2 games. If he struggles , bring in Wolford in the second half .

The two plays I keep coming back to from yesterday are the interception/fumble return for a TD and the fumbled snap on 1st and goal at the one yard line. Two unforced errors that cost us a probable 14 points. That kind of stuff is killing us.

Another byproduct of having a short QB nearly reared its ugly head again yesterday as well. Wolford threw to Hines on a slant route to beat a blitz. The throw was high, Hines got his hands to it, and tipped the ball so that it floated through the secondary. We got really lucky that no one from ND was there to pick it off. Same thing happened three times against Louisville and probably cost us that game.

Apart from the two unforced blunders, Wolford actually played well, both running and throwing. But the two blunders directly cost us a 14 point swing. The sub-in of Hinton on the other one-yd line miss cost another 7. Very few plays, maybe four, were the difference between a win and a 28-7 defeat.

we have not had the ability to run it in from the 1 since Ovie graduated. Recruit a FB, with Kearns is 6'4" hopefully he can play under center and either hand to FB or lean in. the simplest part of the game has cost us dearly for a decade. Or do the old fake RB dive, and flip it to a wide open TE.

Well we have two FBs on NFL rosters right now so we had the ability we just never used one.

Kearns is 6'2" not 6'4", but Hinton and Wolford are only 5'10". Kearns is 215 . Hinton and Wolford are both maybe 190.

I think these are good observations. Speed can't be taught. Can some aspects of evading a pass rush can be taught? What about just "sensing" the pass rush?

I am excited to see how Kearns fares in the spring/summer.

I don't agree. Hinton started the season with a better deep ball than Wolford and has shown significant progress throughout the season with the other throws. The staff must continue to see Wolford throwing the ball better in practice or he wouldn't still be out there. In game situations Hinton has looked to me like he is Wolford's equal as a pure passer (at least from maybe the Army game forward). Have we really seen Hinton throw a lot of passes into the ground since those first few games?
