I hope so.
Wellman is still well-respected by his peers
Why is everyone so sure of this? Do others on this board regularly talk to AD's at other schools about Wellman? Or are we just assuming that because other AD's aren't releasing statements to the press about how much Wellman sucks, he must be well respected? Wellman and Buzz could be THE running joke of AD's around the ACC and country and it's unlikely we'd ever know it. Perhaps he's admired for his ability to fail miserably, while avoiding any real pressure from his donors and continuing to earn high six figure and seven figure salaries? With that in mind, maybe that's why other coaches "respect" Buzz so much.
+1Make the right hire and I'll forgive, but not forget.
I can tell you that one AD told me that Wellman is highly regarded by other ADs. Take that FWIW.
Bernie Madoff was highly regarded once. Buzz remains highly regarded in certain circles.
It's the way of the world.

Yes it matters. We want him to be well-regarded by his peers (ADs and coaches) so we can make the best hire possible in 16 days.

He's chairman of the NCAA selection committee. He's the dean of ACC AD's. He was named AD of the Year by Sports Business Journal in 2008. I'm sure many of his peers are wondering how he screwed up so badly, but it's pretty clear he's been well respected. Why is everyone so sure of this?
