Team plays much better when the ball moves from player to player. It moved well in the first half. Got stuck in (mostly) Alondes Williams hands. Ball gotta move.

OSU did a much better job playing the passing lanes in the second half.
 
Davien is tiny but you can’t guard a free throw shooter. Williams is too mechanical and stiff shooting free throws to be trusted in late game situations. He holds the ball near his waist for 5-6 seconds before raising it up into shooting position. Davien and Laravia can create shots for themselves late in the shot clock or game and are better free throw shooters.
 
Curious to see how they look tomorrow. Kenpom has LSU winning 76-68 and currently has LSU as the second best team Wake plays all year (Duke of course the best).

Big question right now is if anybody else gets sick. Losing Sy hurts. Losing som other guys could be devastating.

I’m very sorry to learn of DD (or anyone) dying from Covid, but liking that lineup and not getting vaxxed seem congruent.

LaRavia summed it up well: Some shots dind't fall and they let it affect their defense. In the first half the defense was creating a lot of good shots for the offense.
 
It was a win.

From 16:06 to 5:09 in the second half the Demon Deacons forgot (or refused) to play winning basketball and were outscored 30-8 by Oregon State. The Beavers spread the floor offensively and took it to the paint. It worked. On offense, ball movement disappeared and jump shots quit falling. The result was a 65-63 OSU lead.

Fortunately, Alondes took over offensively scoring 13 of the Deacs final 17 points. Laravia chipped in the other four. The defense returned and limited the Beavers to 12 points in the final 10 minutes. Deacs gut out a win.

The downside was the worst 11 minutes of play we have seen this year. Absolute crap. The upside is the players responded down the stretch and won. Forbes and the players learned something about the team tonight. Good and bad.
 
Ugly 2nd half. Expected growing pains. But weathering the storm and winning will help them. Forbes still allowing of playground ball and you create your own 0 vs sets with motion, screens, positions for a good look. Glaring in Willams possession where he drove with head down and no kick out nor lob to an open Walton dunk.

Alondes put on quite a push at the end. However, long term, it is not a good strategy to lean on one guy beating g his defender possession after possession. The other guys really need to contribute, and be allowed to contribute. Williams was channeling his inner Chill, "Just gimme the ball..."
 
Hideous second half. Fun to see them gut out a win in the end though. LaRavia is really good.

Super long shot, but have one extra for tomorrow if anyone wants it. LSU fans will greatly outnumber us.
