Moral Monday

If you say it enough times, it just might..... nope, still won't make it true.

Ah well, keep trying old sport.

You didn't do well in history either, it seems.

The Democratic Party was formed in 1792...It adopted its present name during the Presidency of Andrew Jackson in the 1830s. In the 1840s and '50s, the party was in conflict over extending slavery to the Western territories. Southern Democrats insisted on protecting slavery in all the territories while many Northern Democrats resisted. The party split over the slavery issue in 1860 at its Presidential convention in Charleston, South Carolina.
Northern Democrats nominated Stephen Douglas as their candidate, and Southern Democrats adopted a pro-slavery platform and nominated John C. Breckinridge in an election campaign that would be won by Abraham Lincoln and the newly formed Republican Party. After the Civil War, most white Southerners opposed Radical Reconstruction and the Republican Party's support of black civil and political rights. Jackson

The Democratic Party identified itself as the "white man's party" and demonized the Republican Party as being "Negro dominated," even though whites were in control. Determined to re-capture the South, Southern Democrats "redeemed" state after state -- sometimes peacefully, other times by fraud and violence. By 1877, when Reconstruction was officially over, the Democratic Party controlled every Southern state.

Prediction: next century's Democrats will be pretending to have opposed abortion. The beat goes on...

Zinging the Democratic Party for supporting slavery in the 19th Century is like a Red Sox fan zinging the Yankees based on their World Series win in 1903

Democrats in the 19th century were the conservatives of the era. Lincoln was considered a raving liberal.

Plantation mentality then, plantation mentality now. Low expectations then, low expectations now.

I'm split on the Moral Monday crowd. On one head, yeah, the legislature often leaves something to be desired. On the other hand, you lost the election. Get over it and regroup for 2014 and beyond. Ultimately though, I love a little civil disobedience, so more power to them.

Right. I'd like to hear something substantive. If they had a platform of substantive policy proposals they wanted heard, okay. So far, all they look like their doing is protesting losing the last election. I assume that Reverend Diabetes figured this act worked with the school board, so why not with the legislature? A bunch of people causing trouble without ideas doesn't persuade.

hahahahaha seriously every post is better than the last

you truly are on top of your game

Come up with policies that are actually reasonably calculated to lead to better lives for people (rather than resetting another cycle of dependency), and we'll talk. Until then, if the shoe fits....

Among many examples, congrats on the North Carolina lottery. Most regressive, predatory tax ever passed. A real bunch of heroes, you guys are.

I cringed when he mentioned taxes on "hairdos" twice when referencing all the awful things the legislature is plotting.

B/c medical services wouldn't have been more persuasive, right?

Effective communicator, running a little low on good ideas.
