Most Bothersome Wake Forest Development in the last 12 months? Pit/Tunnels Adjace

Yeah basically if you look at the schools that moved up or remained high with the emphasis on “research” it almost directly correlates with NIH funding, not humanities, not NSF, just straight biological science heavy emphasis on medical. Those faculty have absolutely nothing to do with undergrad education outside of using their name for clout, hell most of them have very little to do with graduate education either.

This will fester and hurt the school for years. The goal post didn't get moved overnight. We did not adjust. Others did.

Are we adjusting now or are we doing what our press release said and just holding firm?

Wake is so slow to adjust to anything. We were the last school to work with stubhub. We were the last school to get a collective. We get caught watching the paint dry because those in charge thinks our shit doesn't smell. Its smells horribly.

This one will result in lesser quality students, and therefore lesser quality alums, for years and years. It will be like the Buzz lost generation of hoops fans. We won't be able to recover unless we play their game and play it right now--like the rest of the schools did that we used to be competitive with academically.

I’d nominate the new concessions partner at football (and all athletics) as the most bothersome development of this year! Warm beer, lousy food, crappy catering in the TD Club…pretty disappointing.

Just from today, a release from Wake Athletics talking about our "nationally ranked men's golf team", when said ranking is #25. Given our past success and tradition in golf, that's about like Duke bb touting being "nationally ranked" at #25.

We dropped to #47 soon after this. Coincidence?

Villanova dropped a ton as well. It had nothing to do with anything Wake really. Just different goal posts. Research became more important as did Diversity in all areas. The smaller private schools missing those categories fell Some state schools rose. The ivys are small but all do a ton of research.

But Wake being ranked academically behind Rutgers, Maryland, Ohio State, Purdue, and roughly same as Florida State, Texas A&M, Nc State seems very strange. We are like 8-9th academically in the ACC now. It will probably hurt applications in the long run.

Probably? It will crush us next year. It will spiral. We didn’t adjust to their criteria. We just stuck our nose up. We are hardly a safety school even now.

Seems like some of these shifts are more about increasing the value of quality of research, which is not that relevant to most people using these rankings.
This is correct, the metrics shifted away from education to research, and while your right that most students looking for a school don’t care about the University’s research reputation, most funding organizations and corporations with lots of money do care about those things. So, it’s about money.

The Wake Admin has been out of touch with reality for 50 years. Now Wente can sit around a conference table and spin it or fix it.

We aren’t ranked “academically” behind those schools! What would that even mean? How would you measure academics?

None of these schools listed is being run by a broad. Makes you wonder
