My initial reaction was No Country for Old Men, bc I thought the movie was very well done and well acted, but I changed my mind. The book was badass.

Thought of this too. I guess it helps that the movie is 95% the same as the book. I thought it was casted and acted perfectly.

The Last of the Mohicans. The movie changed some of the plot lines around from the book and the result was a much stronger story, IMHO.

The Shining is both one of the finest horror novels and one of the greatest films (of any genre) ever made. The book and movie are different enough from each other that each stands as a classic on its own merits.
