My 100 favorite songs

Enjoyed it, Townie. Inspired me to start creating my own list. It won't be as varied or have nearly as much narrative as yours, but I'm putting it together.
I’ve been doing this too. The other big difference is I have lots of repeats from the same band. Obviously have multiple Pavement songs, can’t limit my self to only one Beck or Radiohead. One similarity is the influence of Wes Anderson. I didn’t realize until Townie made his list but I’ve got Devo and the Kinks and Bowie on my 100 list because of Wes Anderson movies.

Townie, thanks for the inspiration. Please no one expect a write up on this though.

I dig a lot of Bruce Cockburn. Great guitarist.

And there’s a Superchunk reference in that first one!

That Bob song is one of my favorites, but a total heartbreaker.

If I were to do a write up about the song, I would talk about being in Barcelona without my wife and walking around thinking about what I could get her that would make her happy, and that song just hit different after that.

I missed the super chunk reference

As I contemplate Townie's accomplishment, I can't help but to imagine the songs he loves strewn across the cutting room floor. The one artist I thought I might have seen somewhere on this list (considering many of the inclusions) was Miike Snow. Is that a mis-read on my part or just that 100 is such a tiny number when you get right down to it? I'll hang up and listen.

So I actually have a “last x out” list that didn’t make the cut

Arcade Fire - Rebellion (Lies)
M Ward - Sad, Sad Song
Yo La Tengo - You Can Have It All
Destroyer - Kaputt
Joni Mitchell - A Case of You
Andy Shauf - Early to the Party
Waxahatchee - Swan Dive
The National - Cherry Tree
Kendrick Lamar - Swimming Pools
New Pornographers - Sing Me Spanish Techno
Jenny Lewis - Rabbit Fur Coat
Neil Young - Cowgirl in the Sand
Bright Eyes - Bowl of Oranges
Beirut - Nantes
Peter Gabriel - Solsbury Hill
My Morning Jacket - Run Thru
Flaming Lips - She Don’t Use Jelly
Lucy Dacus - Thumbs
Phoebe Bridgers - I Know the End
Peter Tosh - I Am that I Am
John Prine - Angel from Montgomery

Those were all in my top 100 in the last month before I published the list. It’s all a big moving target

Also meant to post that one with the already emo Songs: Ohia write up, but forgot

And, saw Miike Snow open for Arcade Fire in Philly. Fun show!

@TownieDeac

Huge thanks for this. My middle kid (turns 15 today) and I have been using the Spotify playlist this summer to share music and bond some. And when we’ve come across an artist/song that they like but didn’t know, they’d ask to see what Townie wrote about it and why he chose it. It’s been pretty cool.
