Official ACC Basketball Thread: UVA beats Maryland in overtime!

Did forget about Wisconsin - so two "good wins" neither over a ranked team, and four "bad losses" which are probably bad by any metric --- I fail to see where they have accomplished anything to be considered a good team so far.

But maybe they get there as the year plays out...
 
They (and he) tailed off down the stretch though. And they didn't really beat anybody. @ Wisconsin is a better win than they had all last year.

So numbers is right. They probably will get in. Or at least if they improve their RPI. 123, yikes
 
Their defense is just really really good and most of the time teams with really good defenses are considered to play bad basketball if their offense is mediocre (which is definitely the case with UVA).
 
This is such an awesome time of the year for sports fans. NBA heating up, hockey, college basketball, NFL...

Their defensive numbers (like scoring defense) are tremendously skewed by the glacially slow offense. They are a terrible, terrible rebounding team. They are very slow and not strong.

With the crappy losses they have, they will need 11 ACC wins to make The Dance.
 
They don't play a very slow offense. The reason they're slow is because the packline defense forces guys to take 25 or 30 seconds per possession. It's really, really hard to get the ball inside against them and teams will either settle for jumpers or pass around the perimeter a lot.

They are the 19th best defensive rebounding team in the country. 180th in offensive rebounding.
 
Sorry they are terrible. If the nation is so bad they get in The Dance, it's nearly impossible to believe they could win a game.

Remember if they go 10-8, it will mean they will have twelve losses. It's highly improbable that a twelve loss team with losses to Wake, Clemson, ODU and George Mason will be invited to The Dance.

With this style this is as good as UVA can hope for as top players will not want to play that style.

First sentence is just hilariously wrong. Opponents have shot 29% from 3, and 40% from 2, against UVA this year. That's a 41% eFG%, 8th best in the country.

They are a quality rebounding team, and are solid at forcing turnovers and defending without fouling.

As for making the tournament, Virginia was in Lunardi's 'Next four out' section, before demolishing Florida St. I think they'd have a good shot at getting in with 10 ACC wins, fwiw.

Either way, the fact that they are at least a bubble team makes a pretty clear that they are a whole lot better than 'top 90'.
 
A bubble team is not any good.

Shit if they were in the Big 10, they would have a tough time making the NIT.
 
The worst thing that could happen for Wake is for Clemson to win this.
 
I'm not saying we will/can win on Tuesday, but a win against Clemson tonight and they've got UNC after us. Trap game?

They suck. They played one good half against another sucky team and Stonz re-anoints them. UVa is lucky there are four teams that would likely would have come in last in 22-24 of the past twenty-five years (obviously not this year, because only one can come in last this years).

It seems improbable, but this is about as good of a set-up for [Redacted] to finally win a game against a rival as we've gotten.
 
No buttons to be pushed.....Clemson sucks. Any team can have a good game.

As I said on anther thread, State has a great recruiter named Gottfried and a C- game coach named Gottfried. They have Final Four talent but a play in coach.
