Official ACC Basketball Thread: UVA beats Maryland in overtime!

Casual 28 point win for UVA today. Can't wait to see them host Duke on Thursday.

Are you going to do your odds for seeding in the ACCT this year?

Seems from a quick look that we could get anywhere from 7th-11th, with 9th/10th being the most likely spot for us. If the season ended today it would be Wake v. Clemson in the 8/9, not a bad matchup at all.

Yea I probably will at some point. Way too many scenarios right now though. Not interested in doing all the data entry necessary for that. I wouldn't call Clemson a good matchup for us really. I think the ideal realistic matchup is Florida St.

Somehow BC only lost by 21. Felt like they were down 30 all game. Guess we won't be passing them ... yet.

Interesting game right now between FSU and VT. Hokies up 8.

VT winning would help us a lot in potentially improving our seed....especially if we were somehow able to knock off FSU in Tallahassee on Tuesday night.

FSU is done if we show up we are winning. Any team we can destroy on the boards we can handle.

I don't agree with this since we have won 3 games on the road in 3 years, but I do think we have a reasonable shot at winning if we play like we know how.

Projected Standings Update:
1) #13 Miami 16-2
2) #5 Duke 14-4
3) #17 Virginia 12-6
4) #31 North Carolina 11-7
5) #46 North Carolina St 11-7
6) #59 Maryland 9-9
7) #122 Florida St 7-11
8) #95 Clemson 7-11
9) #118 Wake Forest 7-11
10) #93 Georgia Tech 5-13
11) #109 Boston College 5-13
12) # Virginia Tech 4-14

According to the latest matrix:
Duke: 1 seed (#2 overall)
Miami: 1 seed (#3 overall)
NCSt: 6 seed
UNC: 10 seed
UVA: 12 seed (last at-large)
----
MD: 4th team OUT

Maryland might be an even more interesting bubble case than Virginia. Not only are they firmly on the bubble, but their next 3 games all have spreads of 2 points or less (@GT, @WF, UNC). Probably need to win 2 of those 3 coinflips to get to 9-9 in conference (last game is @UVA). What's particularly rough is that bracketologists aren't going to give them any credit for winning either of the first two, even though they aren't easy games to win. Very possible that Maryland needs to win 3 straight coinflips to make the NCAAT, barring a run in the ACCT.

He's a stud. Definitely all-frosh. Using more possessions than any other frosh in the league, and still putting up a 103 ORtg. Pretty impressive.

3 games tonight: #13 Miami is already up double digits on #158 Virginia Tech. They were favored by 19, 95% to win.

Other 2 games tonight:
#60 Maryland @ #93 Georgia Tech (-1)
#110 Boston College @ #45 North Carolina St (-12)

Pretty close to a must-win game for the Terps.

Thrilled to see Maryland play their way off the bubble.

Could see a similar situation play out next year after Len leaves early.

looks like umd's POS ooc schedule finally caught up with them. also, they're 1-6 on the road in conference, which means the bottom 9 ACC teams are 13-53 (.197) on the road in conference. BC, VT, Clemson, UMD, and (obviously) WF have either 0 or 1 road conference wins.

tau, what is the story behind this?

Once the walkons were in Jeovani Robinson missed or mistimed a block attempt on one of BCs walkons and Gott was letting him know he should have thrown it into the stands.

MD deserves inclusion at the top of the ACC's most disappointing list for this season. They have 7-0 projected lottery pick in Alex Len, the NCAA allowed Xavier transfer Dex Wells to play without sitting out, and Turgeon came into the season with the rep as a solid head coach who had recruited well. The epic win over Duke colored the season as more successful than it has been. FSU swept MD. UVA crushed MD at MD. Their only ACC road win came at awful VT, and their non-conference schedule was an embarassment.

At the start of the year, MD and G'town (unranked when the season started) were considered about equal as the two marquee programs in the DC area. G'town has played their way to the top of the Big East and possible NCAA #1 seed. MD has played their way into the NIT.

Great double-header tonight in the ACC:

7:00 #31 UNC @ #96 Clemson (+3) 37%
9:00 #6 Duke @ #16 UVA (+1) 48%

Both games are on ESPN. The latter is the game of the day on KenPom. One of the best ACC games of the season. The former should be pretty competitive as well, #3 on KenPom's list tonight (#2 is Gonzaga @ BYU).

NIT is being generous. otto porter has helped georgetown.

Already had a long and bad day. Looking forward to tonight and already wearing orange and blue - go Hoos! Tobey played a few unproductive minutes the last game coming back from mono but didn't see Atkins, who has played very sparingly since the shin splints. UVA will likely need them tonight for frontcourt depth due to the inevitable foul trouble they'll encounter.

Important game for UVA. A win tonight should go a long way to punching their dance ticket. And with Dick having their big game on Sat against Miami, 2 days before that on the road should be a good time to catch them.
