Official Kyle Filipowski assaulted a wake fan thread.

Listen the fans were probably on the court a little to fast, but also college basetball courts get stormed in the exact same fashion week in and week out over the course of the season. This was as typical a court storming as it gets in college basketball.

What is different here is Flip/Flop didn't make any effort to leave the court and initiated contact against a fan.

yeah is there such a thing as an "orderly" court storming where venue staff manages the flow? I've surely never seen one.

Filipowski, hell ALL duke players, are used to getting a foul called in their favor when THEY initiate contact. Probably why he felt the whole thing was personal.

It would also be nice if someone in the media could report what we all know but the media is scared to report:

1) Everyone knew a court storming was happening, the game was over before the last inbounds, and Scheyer did not have his team prepared at all.
2) Flip intentionally meandered off the court like a big dumb lug.
3) Flip then intentionally stuck his leg out to trip the student and then pushed him, and may have incurred a small baby injury to his leg as a result.
4) Flip lied/was wrong when he said it was personal. It was not personal.
5) If/when Flip returns fully healed for their next game, it would be nice if the media would question whether he was actually injured at all or faked it/exaggerated for attention. Clarke clearly flopped - and I didn't see anything in the media point that out because of fear. But the evidence was right there before our eyes.
6) Court stormings have occurred regularly for at least half a century and there has been one serious injury. Injuries are incredibly rare.

Just pick like two of those, Conor, to start. Baby steps.
To be fair, Scheyer did own responsibility for not taking them off the court at the TO. The media just chose not to report on it.

I was looking for info about the origins of court-storming and came across this.

"It certainly has a long pedigree. One of the most notorious college basketball court-stormings took place just before a victory was secured, rather than after the buzzer. On February 4, 1961, No. 5 North Carolina visited fourth-ranked Duke at Cameron Indoor Stadium in Durham, N.C. On a late drive to the basket with his team trailing by 5 points, Tar Heels point guard Larry Brown was essentially bear-hugged by the budding Duke star Art Heyman. The collision led to a hockey-style fistfight under the basket in which other players — and soon, dozens of spectators — entered the fray."

So, really, we can blame Duke for all of this.

Scheyer talking about how fans used to wait 10 seconds is absurd.

Notice who is slowly pacing away in this clip:

That clip shows MD security “walling off” the handshake line. Player go on the right side of that wall and even the MD fans (who were brutal, especially toward Duke) respected that. Not always possible, but any potential issues could’ve been minimized by coliseum staff, as well as Duke coaches and players, using common sense.

Storming the court/field has been encouraged for so long, it’s become part of the fabric of college sports. Conferences and schools adopted policies to lessen potential injury from storming the field in football. Harder, but same can be done in basketball.

If not, then ban it entirely. But don’t blame Wake for an accident (at worst) that resulted from engaging in an activity that has been encouraged for decades.

Flip did not have imaging done because he is not injured. As was obvious from the outset. He’s a little banged up and he may not practice today. Probably banged knees with somebody. Duke does play Louisville next though and it wouldn’t surprise me one bit for Duke to hold Flip out to continue this ridiculous dialogue that they are fully stoking with the media - who is desperate and falling all over themselves to report anything about Duke because, again, it drives clicks and engagement

This is the dumbest possible take in just about every aspect. My favorite part though is suggesting that James Scott Farrin as the law firm for this case. They should look into how many cases Jim Farrin has tried.
Even if there’s liability, what are the damages 😂

People talking about a forfeit are idiots for a few reasons, especially since it can't be proven that it wasn't a Duke fan who collided with Flip. If they put forfeits in place, some visiting fan will run into some random scrub to "injure" him, and that school will almost certainly be Duke. Forfeits are for when the game can't continue because of fan behavior, not after the game is over. Banning fans from the next game makes more sense as a punishment, like European soccer teams do when the fans get too violent and/or racist. If Roger "make shit up as I go along" Goodell were comissioner of the ACC I would legitimately be worried about getting a forfeit. It would be very Wake Forest to get a win over Duke that eliminated the Deacs from postseason contention.

"According to coach Jon Scheyer, he suffered a sprained ankle. Some sources have said it was his knee. Either way, he was definitely injured."

This is too good. "It might have been his ankle, or maybe he injured his knee. While we're not sure which part of his body was injured, it was definitely injured."

Yeah I misread the schedule and thought they had NCSt next in the other thread. This is the worst case scenario for Duke theatrically holding Flip out.

And we know courts always accept broad conclusions at face value about damages so they’re totally good here. “Your honor he was DEFINITELY injured” oh okay - $1 million to Duke

well if it's truly a jury of his peers, it'll be all national media pundits so they'll buy it

This clip also shows a Duke player front and center not making it to the handshake line. He gets confronted by one or possibly two MD fans who intentionally seek him out, and he just stands still and walks away from it.

My takeaways:
1) If there are additional safety measures prepared, a player still has to be aware enough to make it to the protected area. That is on the individual player.

2) MD fans are jackasses.
