He is going to hit 500000000 homers in that park

So Jeter is still working for the Yankees.

This is one of the worst trades in the last quarter of a century in baseball. How they didn't get at least a couple of the Yankees Top 5 prospects is beyond me. Jeter starts his career in management with an F------------. Even Zeke wouldn't have made that trade.

The few fans the Marlins have should stop attending games. Advertisers should demand 80-90% discounts.

The Commissioner should step in like they did when Charley Finley was dismantling the A's or the CP3 trade.

No trade clause + huge contract really eliminates any leverage by the Marlins. Plus, Stanton has averaged only about 125 games/year since being called up full time

To not get at least one of the Yankees' Top 5 prospects and likely two is a total failure. The Marlins could keep Stanton for all or part of the year and get a better deal.

Clearly ability to afford a team is not a consideration when considering new ownership.

Lots of #hottakes on how the Stanton deal changes the Harper sweepstakes next Fall.

It just removes one of the suitors - gotta imagine the teams that missed on Stanton will be the frontunners for Harper - Dodgers, Giants and Cards. The Cubs would have to have interest, but the Heyward hole is going to kill them for awhile. Red Sox and Nats likely up there with the ability to spend that money.

Have heard that Harper will go to whomever offers him the most money with no hometown discount or preference for a "winning" team. Harper doesn't want to just break the highest value MLB contract; he wants to annihilate that record. BTW, don't be surprised if the Phillies are in the mix for Harper. With a young roster, they will have money to spend, and Philly has large market resources (Harper also has hit very well in that park).

And the Phillies are definitely in the mix for Trout.

Gotta hand it to Cap'n Jeets that he's owned the Marlins for like 10 minutes and is already worse than Jeffrey Loria. Impressive !

Doesn't this sum up what is wrong with baseball? How many teams in the league could afford to pay that contract?

Unless he suffers a catastrophic injury, Stanton's deal is team friendly and will look even more team friendly after the 2018 free agent class hits the market (Harper and Machado). The Cardinals are not wild spenders, and they have a perceptive front office. The Cards (like the Giants) are well aware that the economics of baseball make the Stanton deal affordable for every team, and could turn out to be a bargain.

It appears that the Marlins only strategy is to sell off all payroll, and make money off MLB revenue sharing because they have blown up all local revenue streams (the Marlins also terminated the contracts of their local TV announcers; even though their attendance sucked the Marlins local TV audience was not bad; watching Stanton hit bombs and Dee Gordon run was entertaining). Marlins Park will be vacant this year; and no one is going to watch their games on local TV. Really sad situation for a team that had a nice lineup.

Jeter quickly moving into Michael Jordan and Isaiah Thomas territory of post-career suckitude.
