Facebook's Goldman stated that sowing chaos, not electing Trump, was Russia's primary intent in infiltrating American social media networks.
"Most of the coverage of Russian meddling involves their attempt to effect the outcome of the 2016 U.S. election. I have seen all of the Russian ads and I can say very definitively that swaying the election was *NOT* the main goal," he wrote on Twitter.

Later that day, Rob Goldman seemed to come to the same understanding, and posted internally at Facebook a message that read as follows: “I wanted to apologize for having tweeted my own view about Russian interference without having it reviewed by anyone internally. The tweets were my own personal view and not Facebook’s. I conveyed my view poorly. The Special Counsel has far more information about what happened [than] I do—so seeming to contradict his statements was a serious mistake on my part.

To those of you who have reached out this weekend to offer your support, thank you. It means more than you know. And to all of you who have worked so hard over the last six months to demonstrate that we understand our responsibility to prevent abuse on Facebook—and are working hard to do better in the future—my deepest apologies."

Each one of these indictments for lying to Mueller is another shot at Manafort, Trump, Donnie, Jr., Kushner, Hicks and others to tell them not to lie. Trump could have 100 felonies charged if he talks to Mueller for ten minutes.

Obvious Russian persistence - and then-candidate Trump's 164 references to WikiLeaks in the last month of the campaign - suggest someone believed the Russians were having an effect. It is just not a measurable effect and hence the intelligence community's consistent "no call" on the actual impact.

But last week's statement by Vice President Pence clearly implies that the intelligence community has a view, and it's the one most useful to the White House. Intelligence community leadership was unified, precise and determined when describing the Russian election intervention in front of the Senate intelligence committee on Feb. 13.

They may have to be so again. Is it time for that phone call?"
