That is a good question. Especially back when it wasn't even a criminal investigation but instead was a counter intelligence / national security investigation, why lie in a national security context.
 
Trump is not president because of a Russian internet troll. He's president because americans like voting for pseudo celebrities for office.

No. It had nothing to do with Russian Trolls. Russian trolls did not flip 200,000 votes in the rust belt. It may help you sleep better at night thinking that. It may help you win an internet message board argument thinking that. It may help you justify your twitter obsession. But it did not happen. Christ.
