Official thread about the movie you just saw

The whole "using real people instead of actors" thing is just blatant pandering to the hyper-nationalist Trump crowd. Just make a documentary if it's that important to avoid Hollywood actors.

The Atlantic review compared it to a workplace safety video.

really glad I talked the in-laws out of going to see it on Saturday. instead we came home and watched The Big Sick, which they really liked

Why would anyone think that movie would be good? It has shit reviews, it’s an entire movie about an event that last minutes, hell the whole movie could almost be shot real time with the travel time between Amsterdam and Paris.

The 3 guys were on The Daily Show last week and after the 10 minute interview I pretty much thought that was all I needed to know.

Making the Eastwood movie was all about the Benjamins. Having these guys star saved the production company millions upon millions. Add to that there are millions of Americans who will flock to a movie about heroics like this and getting it made was a no brainer.

This group will love it no matter how much of a story there is. I would be surprised if there wasn't a minor bidding war to make this flick.

Hilarious.

So I bought tickets for a movie thinking it opened this weekend. Realized I messed up the weekend and made a last minute audible since we already had the sitter. Only knew this was the new Clint Eastwood movie... wow was it bad. I'll give the main guys a pass on the acting. Every other person involved owes me 90 minutes of life back. Dorothy someone wrote the script. F U dorthy.

If you find a link to that, could you post it?

Thanks! Looked around for a couple minutes & couldn't find it.

So what your saying is, it was good?

Unforgiven is one of my favorite movies ever so I can’t get onboard with this take.

What about any movie that he's directed since? Eastwood's movies - regardless of how you feel about them (I like Unforgiven and Million Dollar Baby, though that's about it) - have been pretty flat for awhile now.

Mystic River and Letters from Iwo Jima come to mind. I’m sure I’m forgetting some.

I mean, his movies feel like they’re directed by this type of person.

There are maybe a handful of directors in Hollywood that wouldn't kill to have that list of movies he has directed. And that handful will be very, very fortunate to have a run like he did when he was 73-78 years old (2003-2008). I can forgive a clunker from the man every now and then because he doesn't have many and he's about 90 years old. Plus he inspired an entire episode of Archer.

2009 Invictus (didn't see it)
2008 Gran Torino (A+, gets better with each viewing)
2008 Changeling (B)
2006 Letters from Iwo Jima (A)
2006 Flags of our Fathers (B+)
2004 Million Dollar Baby (A)
2003 Mystic River (A)

2000 Space Cowboys (B+, it is what it is)
1999 True Crime (didn't see it)
1997 Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil (didn't see it)
1997 Absolute Power (don't remember much about it, but couldn't suck with that cast)
1995 The Bridges of Madison County (didn't see it)
1993 A Perfect World (A, an underrated gem and easily Costner's best)

The only thing I remember about Blood Work was how stupid the reveal was. Similar to one of my favorite bad movies I STILL KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER. “Will Benson. Ben’s son?!?!’

Gran Torino was great, not sure if that counts since he starred in it.

I'm talking purely about direction. I just find him to be a pretty boring filmmaker as a director. I forgot that he did Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. It's not a great movie, but it's stylistically interesting, really well acted, and I always enjoy watching it when it's on.

As I remember it Mystic River qualifies. It isn’t cinematography porn but it was interesting enough. Emotionally brutal movie.

Giving American Sniper a B+, and saying that Gran Torino gets better with each viewing, tells me all I need to know there. American Sniper was some fucking bullshit, and Gran Torino is overrated as hell.
