Official US Soccer / World Cup '26 Thread (USA vs. Mexico 3/24 in Dallas)

My TV guide says it is also being shown on CBS Sports Network Wednesday night (same channel that showed the USA/Mexico match on Thursday, I believe). That should be available in most sports bars.

Glad to hear it. Additionally, Mexico-El Salvador will be on Univision at the same time.

Mexico City was probably my favorite city i've traveled to. Stunningly beautiful. Great food. The culture. I loved it.

yeah, it's so great -- gonna go work remote in CDMX the last couple weeks of May

how does the pot system in a shared WC like US/Mexico/Canada in 2026? all three in Pot 1?

the worst part about Canada being Pot 4 is that it increases the USMNT's chances of getting drawn with Peru or Wales, who would also be underseeded based on rankings.

for the same reason, tangentially it would potentially help the US if New Zealand beats Costa Rica, introducing NZ as a possible opponent and slightly reducing the odds for Wales/Peru

Don't forget the Solomon Islands! They're only +1000 underdogs in regulation tomorrow against NZ.

The 2026 World Cup will feature 48 teams instead of 32, so who the hell knows. I'm assuming all will be Pot 1

My guess would be three pots containing 16 teams each, so Pot 1, Pot 2, and Pot 3. All would be in Pot 1 in my opinion.

I've spent about 4 weeks in Mexico City total (two two-week trips) and it turned me into a Mexico City evangelist. A lot of people sleep on it, but if you're looking for a city vacation it's hard to beat. Phenomenal food, great museums/art/architecture, super nice people, and the metro system is great and cheap. And everything is super, super cheap.

I've done the Azteca tour and have caught an América game there and had an absolute blast. That place gets rocking. The only louder stadium I've been to is San Paolo. Really, really want to go down for a USMNT.

How did you feel about getting to and from the stadium, assuming you were wearing US gear? I've taken the metro down to Tasqueña and jumped on the light rail to Azteca in the past and have never felt any less safe in DF than in other huge cities, but have never made the trip as an obvious opposing fan, so interested to hear what that was like.

We stayed near Lomas de Chapultepec and had a private driver for the night of the match. $100.00 USD for him to drive us down, stay for the length of the match, pick us up, and take us home. Was well worth it IMO. We wore red hoodies over our jerseys in and out of the stadium, but there was no mistaking that we were US fans. Never had an issue. He dropped us off about a 1/4 mile from the stadium and we walked around it to take everything in. No one said a word to us. After the match, they held the US fans in the stadium for about 80 minutes then escorted us out. We had a mile walk to his parked location but same as before, no issues. It honestly felt safer than matches I've been to in Atlanta or LA.

Japan and South Korea were both Pot 1 so I'd assume so with each being automatically placed in groups that have all their group games in their home country (if possible, don't know the group venue setup)

pretty wild that Portugal is in Pot 1 if they win and out of the WC altogether if they lose

Early scenes in African WCQ

Senegal up on Egypt (1-1 ag) in the 2nd minute
Ghana with the away goal @ Nigeria in the 11th minute (1-0 ag)

Senegal vs Egypt is bizarre. There's 5-10 fans with green lasers that are following Salah around the pitch, keeping the lasers in his eyes when possible. Same with the keeper. I've seen one laser in CONCACAF matches before but multiple tracking a player is ridiculous

Husky, I'm staying in the West End near North Station. There's a place called Banner's Kitchen and Tap nearby. There's also Hurricanes at the Garden (damn, I hope the Celtics or Bruins aren't in town, need to check). Thoughts?
