Ongoing Dem Debacle Thread: Commander will kill us all

Let me it put this way:

Pelosi’s wing of the party = Sam Hartman - probably going to win you at least 4 games, but probably no more than 7. Consistently mediocre. Nothing really changes, but Clawson keeps his job.

AOC’s wing of the party = Jamie Newman. Is there a small chance it all goes wrong and you only win 2-3 games? Sure. But the ceiling is much, much higher. You’re looking at a ceiling of 9/10 games. Maybe, just maybe contending for a division title.

So what? That helps Pelosi.

I wasn’t making any decorative statement about it, just noting how this is going to go.

But in a big picture way, it kind of shows that Dems need the change that AOC and co. seem to be able to bring. Pelosi has struggled to get the headlines that can turn the tide against the GOP and Trump (and Schumer might as well not exist at this point). AOC and friends have shown the ability to get positive Dem headlines and also get headlines that shine light on the horrific things the GOP does. Just this past few weeks, the border discussion has moved in the Dems favor after AOC and fellow progressives visited the border facilities and exposed to an even greater degree the atrocities being committed by CBP in those facilities. That led to headlines and stories getting written that probably would have been ignored or lightly covered otherwise. Then there were follow ups about racist FB groups involving CBP agents, potential sexual abuse in the facilities, and even a CBP agent drinking piss water to try to prove that making immigrants drink from toilets wasn’t so bad.

Bottom line, AOC (despite RJ’s incorrect assertions) is having an impact in her position in Washington while also using her platform to drive change and passion in the greater national discussion. She is certainly not afraid of the GOP and has the potential to finally start shaping political conversations on Democratic terms, not GOP terms.

Declarative** fuck the edit system on this board

Before Pelosi stepped in, the headlines comparing the detention centers to concentration camps. Pelosi has been running interference for the GOP ever since. How dare Dems criticize the GOP without Pelosi's permission!

I'm saying the opposite. She is having an impact. The problem is it's negative at this point.

See I just don’t get how you think that. What is negative about standing up to the GOP? What is negative about using her seat on Financial Services and Oversight committees to ask probing questions that cause discomfort to those who have sat as fat cats for too long? Why is getting young people and minorities excited to talk about the political process a bad thing?

Essentially, why do you think the status quo is so much more beneficial to Democrats that you believe AOC should sit down and shut up?

To everyone outside of the far left and nearly far left.

She could have been a GREAT story.

None of these things you mention are a problem. However, when her chief of staff tweets out that all moderate democrats are segregationists, that's a problem. And then when she implies Pelosi is racist after Pelosi reprimands her for it, that too is a problem.

The Green Deal was interesting but she really should have worked through the standard process to hopefully get some of those plans worked into legislation that would actually pass. Instead, she allowed McConnell to use it as a political point and it failed miserably, predictably.

AOC needs to attack the GOP and nit her own party.

Pelosi needs to attack the GOP and not her own party.

As to McConnell, he has all Democrats beat on messaging.

And she's exactly right on this. The sad part is she could be making herself a potential party leader in the near future if she wasn't helping the GOP so often. She could be a megastar if she had someone to help her navigate Congress better. Well, if she would listen.

That AOC sure would be good if she’d just listen to her elders instead of talking so damn much

Maybe there's a 28-32 year old who has been around and has experience. It's not about age. It's about experience.

It's also common sense. You don't attack the people on your own team like she does.
