Ongoing Dem Debacle Thread: Commander will kill us all

It's interesting that the Problem Solvers Caucus is not getting more criticism given that they were the ones who blew up Pelosi's plan to add amendments protecting migrant children to the Senate bill.

Only millennials would think trying to help her get better would be "not handling" her. Of course, they all kneel to her and are happy at her dividing Dems when victory is in sight.

AOC is starting to play the same role for the Dems that the Freedom Caucus plays for the GOP. I'm not down with it.

Exactly what she's doing. She's providing an easy target for the RNC in EVERY race next year. She is hurting Dems much more than she's helping them.

RJ, this is just BS. You have no basis for saying this. She has been incredibly active, has done well in the hearings I've seen her participate in, and she is generating more enthusiasm than anyone in the party right now who is not running for President, and she scares the hell out of the right. That's why she is talked about on a daily basis. Pelosi needs to just focus on doing her job - she is just helping the other side with this sideshow.

She doesn't scare the hell out of the right. The right wants to make her the poster child for all Dems. Every time she pops off about something that is further left than where the Dems are, the right points to her as the hero of the left. And they paint her as crazy, inexperienced, and impractical, i.e. her job was a bartender before serving in Congress. Make no mistake, Fox News is building her up because she represents everything that makes even mainstream conservatives (let alone Trump folk) want to vote against Dems. That's why the right talks about her so much.

And her primary victory was certainly helped by the demographics in her district. Not to say she didn't run an active campaign against an incumbent who was largely absent.

Seems like they need to step up their game so they don’t get primaried.

The math here is simple. House Dems said they were going to hold the Trump administration accountable. If they don’t do that, House Dems risk getting primaried.

Primarying someone can work in a bright blue district. See Crowley, Joe. But all it does in purple or reddish purple districts is lose seats.

RJ and Mich25, 1 largely unnoticed thing about AOC and Omar is they've started taking most of the heat from the conservative press, taking a good deal of the heat off Pelosi. I'm fine with them being the new boogiepeople as long as it doesn't cost Dems elsewhere.

She doesn't scare the right at all. She's exactly what they want to use as a target.

She scared the right during the Cohen hearing when she asked pointed questions about finances nobody else was asking that actually moved the hearing somewhere.

How many ads will have , "Dems are all socialists and commies like AOC. You won't be able to have private property, your job or your insurance if you vote for X".

EVERY Dem will be AOC's best friend. But she doesn't care. She doesn't understand that her ideas will be used to scare many people.

The GOP realized the days of attacking Pelosi were over. They can't believe how lucky they are to have AOC to use against the Dems.

Yeah, when AOC's chief of staff tweeted out that moderate Democrats are segregationists, Pelosi has the right to rebuke that. And then when AOC comes back and plays the race card against the Dem house leader who has spent her life basically advancing a progressive agenda, AOC needs to sit the fuck down. AOC's chief of staff's tweet is the kind of stuff that can lose the House and the Presidency.

ads already do that with Pelosi, have for years

Because he didn't really run a campaign. She deserves credit for working her ass off to win the primary, but she hasn't done any learning on the job like anyone on any job would.

What learning on the job do you want her to do? She’s spearheading potentially significant legislation, she’s aggressively questioning serious injustices in the financial sector during hearings and getting powerful to admit to a series of either oversight issues or just flat out miscalculations (see the Fed discussion from this past week), she’s bringing to light substantial human rights violations on the border, and she’s engaging the entire nation and getting them interested in politics and what is actually going on in Washington even though she only represents one NY district.

Would you rather her just learn that she needs to toe the party line and let the “adults” do their jobs? BecUse spoiler alert: the adults haven’t been doing their jobs.

maybe, just maybesome people will like the idea that a candidate/wing of the party actually scares conservatives

That's what I said, but Pelosi's impact in those ads is waning. AOC is going to take her place.

There's also a huge difference in that Pelosi understood how to work behind the scenes to get away from such attacks. AOC just keeps going.

They were going to do that anyway, to some Democrat. It's what Fox News and right-wing media have done for decades: identify a Democrat and turn them into the bogeyman (or woman) of the Democratic Party to frighten Republicans. Hillary filled that role for years. If they didn't target AOC or Omar or Tlaib (and it's no accident that those three women are being targeted, and it's not because of their policy positions) then Pelosi herself would be the target, and Fox and other right-wing media would be saying that Pelosi was "crazy, impractical, been in Washington too long, a far-left California liberal out of touch with the rest of America." Hell, they've done that already, when she was the House Speaker from 2007 to 2010. In that sense these freshman Democratic women are probably taking a good deal of right-wing media heat off Pelosi. But, make no mistake, if it wasn't AOC or Omar, then rest assured that Fox would simply have found another LibDem Washington pol to target as a "crazy left-winger" to frighten Trumpites. It's what they do.

sure, which is why who cares. everything a Dem wants to do is socialist according to conservatives.

oh man lots of gems in here

Also the right is going to paint literally any high-profile Dem as a socialist trying to bring down America. That is not a new phenomenon because AOC happened. So give us all a break on that shit.

Lots of people are bringing up what's going on at the border without attacking other Dems.

She is basically trying to start a Freedom Caucus or Tea Party and that will harm other Dems in districts or states that aren't as definitively blue as hers.

Her words matter now. They will be used against ALL Dems. She should think about that before opening her mouth to attack those who can make her legislative concepts possible.
