Ah yes that famous time in 2009 when Obama needed to convince Republicans. He prenegotiated with the GOP and still not a single one of them voted for it.

It was so terrible that he stopped us devolving into a depression and started the longest period of economic growth in US history.

It was also terrible that he passed ACA which gave millions of Americans health coverage they hadn't had before.

And yet here we are 10 years later. Tens of millions still uninsured, and the same house of cards cratering our economy. A half-measure where a whole measure was needed.

The stimulus was the right idea, but the no-strings-attached approach and the austerity that followed were not. We've got ten years of data to show that now.
 
If you actually remember the ACA fight honestly, you'll remember that Joe Biden fought for the public option until the final vote happened. Think of how much further along we'd be if other Dems had listened to Biden then, but you don't want to hear that. You also don't want to hear about the tens of millions of Americans who were helped. You'd rather have them get fucked if you can't get everything you want.

The economy would have ceased to exist with the stimulus. Was it perfect? Of course not.

One of the most liberal/progressive of the past fifty years, Ted Kennedy famously said, "Don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good."

Not the same sectors but the same structural problems. Airline industry has been financially deregulated for like 40 years without an improvement to product or price and is now like “BAILOUT PLEASE”

If Lehman Bros had happened in February of a first term Republican president, there's a good chance Republicans would be as open to "socialism" as they are right now. Bush gave everyone $600 in 2008 to help stave off a coming recession.

I think the issue is that he stole Republican ideas, implemented them as his own, and then was branded a Socialist dictator by the Pubs who refused to work with him on anything. If we keep taking the middle road and half measure to appease an unappeasable right wing what is the fucking point?
