Ongoing gun violence/injury thread

Posted on the Pit thread, but think it deserves repeating. Rubio says that there are no laws that could have prevented (or help prevent) yesterday's shooting. What an absolute joke from a corrupt, NRA-beholden politician. Laws that could have made it much more difficult and possibly prevented it, just off the top of my head:

1) You can't buy an AR 15 or similar assault weapon if you're under 21 - make it the same as pistols
2) You can't buy an AR 15 or similar assault weapon at all - unless you go through vigorous background checks similar to those required to get clearance to own an automatic weapon (almost impossible)
3) If you're kicked out of a public school for disciplinary reasons, you cannot buy a gun
4) If you're currently being treated or have been treated for mental health issues within the past X number of years, you cannot buy a gun - this one's tricky
5) Increase law enforcement's ability to track online/social media threats and make arrests, require mental health assessments/treatment/etc, prosecute as necessary
 
Good post. If we really wanted to keep people safe, we could.
 
NRA doesn't care about keeping people safe. the more you are scared, the more likely you will buy a gun.

Yeah, noticed that earlier. Don't want to give him the fame/infamy. Even one of the kids they interviewed started to say his name, stopped, and then said "the shooter".
 
That fraps vs firearms isn't going to speak to real America, where there aren't any Starbucks. In fact, if there is a Starbucks, your town is likely on the verge of losing its Real Card.
 
Wow just saw the video of a victim's mom screaming pleas for change to Trump on CNN. Both correspondents broke down. I almost did at my desk.
 
 
risc, you’d post the same stuff if someone who voted for a candidate popular among Muslim extremists lost a family member in a mass shooting committed by Muslim extremists.
 
if an ISIS guy trained at a compound in outer wherethefuckistan and then shot up an American school yesterday, that compound would have been Tomahawked last night no matter who was president. But these "republic of florida" turds will face 0 consequences because 'murica and first and second amendment.
