Ongoing NC GOP debacle thread

0.3% of the adult population is transgender. is this correct? is this really a big issue

The bathroom stuff is less of an issue than removing the rights of people to sue for discrimination in state court and the other issues taken away from cities.

It's a Trojan horse issue to rally the rubes while the state government cuts away at their rights.

As DeaconSig said, it's about more than just that.

Also, while 0.3% seems like a relatively small number (and it is compared to other things we could focus on), that's still nearly 100 people at every Wake Forest football game who are transgender (assuming 30K attendance LOL).

I thought this was funny - ." PayPal decided they weren’t going to build a global HQ there, even though they have HQ’s in places like Singapore, which arrest gays on site just for being gay."

The Far Left and the Religious Right are not going to be happy until they have pushed their Social Agendas off the cliff at their respective ends of the spectrum.

People can choose to avoid establishments with unisex bathrooms, coed schools, coed dorms, or coed floors within coed dorms if those things make them uncomfortable, so don't see how their rights are being violated.

People can also choose to avoid establishments with single sex bathrooms, single sex schools, single sex dorms, or single sex floors within single sex dorms if those things make them uncomfortable, so don't see how their rights are being violated without the CLT ordinance either.

You're saying that everyone should be comfortable with folks of any sex/gender in an enclosed stall bathroom with them. So if that is the case, why can't trans people be comfortable with folks of any sex/gender in an enclosed stall bathroom with them, as exists under the status quo? They are the ones saying they are not comfortable so need a change ... not everyone else. Yet you are telling everyone else that they need to be comfortable with it but not the trans people.

Because there is more evidence of trans women being assaulted in men's rooms than there is of women being assaulted by men posing as trans women in women's rooms. Which is astonishing considering trans women make up less than .3% of the population and women make up 50%.

How can this be so difficult to understand? No one sees the part under the clothes - the penis or vagina - because that is only exposed in the stall. Everyone sees the appearance of the person as they walk into the restroom. The initial ordinance was passed for a reason - transgender women don't feel safe going into men's restrooms because they run the risk of getting the crap kicked out of them. This is a real concern.

For those in support of this "common sense" bill, do you think that the signs on restrooms should be changed from "men/women" to "penis/vagina?" Do you think the "men/women" symbols outside restrooms should be changed to a picture of a penis or vagina? Because this "common sense" bill indicates that is what is important when choosing a bathroom.

Rafi, 2&2 and others who keep arguing about this don't care if trans people get beat up in the bathroom.

It's going to be funny when in like 20 years most of America has unisex bathrooms and we look back on this thread and laugh at how people thought men and women sharing bathrooms was thought to be such a huge problem.

One of the most outspoken posters against it presumably grew up using racially segregated bathrooms. Seems absurd now but I'm sure people were having arguments back then about not wanting their granddaughters to share bathrooms with Negro women.

If you haven't yet, watch the vids by Trae Crowder aka the liberal redneck on FB re: HB2.

Don't give the dumbasses any ideas about segregated bathrooms...

Similar rhetoric stirring up fear of uncontrollable black male sexuality was certainly used with school segregation supporters.

0.2% is 1 in 500, so most people have already interacted with transgenders and not even realized it. Also pretty clear that many have never been in multi stall unisex bathrooms either. Weird time for social conservatives to be arguing about bathrooms given the recent success of The Help and Dennis Hastert going to the big house. Bring on Newt as Trump's VP-another serial philanderer will help with women, neutralize Bubba's bimbo eruption attacks, and remind everyone how a pedophile became Speaker.

How about Larry Craig or the Congressman from FL?

I don't want anyone getting beat up in bathrooms. Which is why we have assault and battery laws. I have yet to see any actual #kenpomadvancedstats that indicates that trans people get beat up in Charlotte bathrooms at a higher rate than anyone else getting beat up in Charlotte bathrooms.

Just as how fear of uncontrollable straight male violence is being used by trans-bathroom segregation supporters to justify the Charlotte ordinance. The hypocrisy is ridiculous.

I think you're mistaken. It's used to justify HB2. Isn't it straight males who are going to be dressing up like women to go into their bathrooms?
