Ongoing NC GOP debacle thread

"Many of the speakers at these rallies were calling for gun registration, confiscation, Second Amendment repeal and even the murder of those who would not turn over their guns to the government,” Boswell wrote on her campaign Facebook page.

Keep in mind, in Sacramento, they're protesting cops shooting and killing a man because they thought he had a gun.

Beverly Boswell, the fake nurse who said that Parkland students wanted to kill gun owners, lost in the primary yesterday.

These five NC Republicans won't get another term in the legislature

Rep. Beverly Boswell fell to Bobby Hanig, a Currituck County commissioner, by 411 votes in their Republican primary.

Boswell of Dare County recently garnered attention outside of House District 6 and the Outer Banks for her comments about students participating in nationwide school walkouts being "Tide pod eaters" and misidentifying herself as a nurse.

Hanig received 53 percent of the vote to Boswell's 47 percent.

NCGA considering handling the entire budget as a conference report, which handles the whole bill as a yea or nay - without the ability to make changes or amendments or being passed by the separate houses of the GA. The house appointed conferees and there is not a singe democrat included.

So basically the budget is being negotiated behind closed doors with only GOP representatives included, then will be presented as a simple yay or nay vote without any means to make and changes once out of conference. So there will not be a single non-republican voice in the making of the budget at any stage of the process.

Way to go NCGA.

As we've seen in some videos from committee votes, the acutal number of votes dies not matter. The committee chair will call it favor of Republicans.

They're also considering amending the state constitution to solidify their political legacy forever.

The word from insiders at the General Assembly is that GOP House and Senate leaders have instead all but finalized plans to use the latter days of their endangered supermajorities to advance as many as three cynical and/or highly destructive state constitutional amendments during the session. The amendments would: 1) permanently cap the state income tax rate, 2) impose a new photo identification requirement to vote, and 3) establish a state constitutional right to hunt and fish. The apparent plan is to pass all three and place them on the November general election ballot.

3) establish a state constitutional right to hunt and fish

WTF does this even mean ? This is something that some idiot is going to interpret like the Second Amendment and think it gives them the right the hunt coyotes in the parking lot at BestBuy with an AR-15.

SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED

21 states have hunting and fishing rights in their constitution, Vermont since 1777. We're the only state in the south without one. In this particular case, I view this less as a substantive policy issue and more of a get out the base move as they need the good ol' boys excited about something to help preserve their supermajority in November.

Dem Dems want to take away yer huntin' and fishin'!

It means rile up the base to ensure these amendments pass.

Just streamlining the school-to-prison pipeline.

5% for taking on a level of responsibility that could end up in prison.

Sometime in the future this will be considered something like “the era of Republican regression”.
