Ongoing US GOP Debacle Thread: Seditious Republicans march toward authoritarianism

nothing about Matt Gaetz's large adult son who apparently exists?

Oh my goodness. The original post in which Gaetz reveals his "son" as a gotcha to a Black colleague who said Republicans don't have the same concerns because they don't have Black children.

well I'll be spending the 4th down at the beach where his family lives so I can walk by his house and see if he's playing catch with his chip off the ol' block

The video that caused the initial mocking that Gaetz was responding to. Much faux anger:

I've read a couple of articles about the Matt Gaetz story. It's utterly bizarre, and as it does nothing to improve Matt Gaetz's reputation on racial or other social and cultural issues, I'm not sure what he thought this would do for him. Maybe he's just that dumb.

Matt Gaetz is incredibly dumb.

Katie Hill was tweeting in support of him (where's Angus to comment?????) and about how he didn't want to use his son as a political prop except that's exactly what he did.

having just gone through the adoption process I can't imagine how a young, single man with a drinking problem got approved to do this, but maybe it's different for an infant plus I don't have the connections he does.

It’s a really weird stunt. The old tweets not saying Nestor is his son are very damning. The picture of Gaetz’ swearing in with Nestor nowhere to be found is very bad. And then leading into allegations that Gaetz is a pedophile and Nestor is his staffer? Man.

The memes have been good though.

Quagmire actually supported katie hill when she was being attacked by trumpers and assholes like col anus that other revenge porn deniers/justifies.

He never adopted an adult son. He just identifies as a father.

To be fair, in the glory days of the GOP, when there were principled conservatives running the party, John McCain, a war hero and long time respected senator, was accused of having an illegitimate black child, when the truth was he adopted an Indian child. I can understand why Gaetz was trying to hide Nestor given that the GOP has become somewhat unprincipled in recent years.

Yeah, that was weird. "I didn't want to expose him to the ugliness of politics, but then people made fun of me on the internet, so...."

Anyway, Gaetz changed the convo from policing for a bit, and got himself some sweet victimization points, so I'm sure he's satisfied.

NBC News has an article posted interviewing people attending Trump's Tulsa rally. Some of the remarks are...interesting. "If Trump felt comfortable having it here, then I'm comfortable." "I don't fear anything. If today is the day I die, today is the day I die." According to the article, relatively few of the people they interviewed are planning to wear a mask, many questioned how severe the coronavirus outbreak has really been, and said they had a right to put themselves at risk to cheer on Trump. “I think [the coronavirus] has been hyped up more than it is.There’s flu, there’s cancer, there’s COVID-19,” said Mary Legan of Claremore, Oklahoma. A retired couple told an interviewer that "This is a free country and I can do what I want. If I want to wear a mask, I wear a mask. If I don’t, I don't. If I get sick, I get sick. That's my choice" and he added that he thought the death totals were being "padded." His wife agreed that "Some of these numbers aren't real." And so on.

What's really amazing is that these folks are doing all this just so they can spend a hour or two listening to Trump brag about himself and call his critics nasty names and insult groups and individuals they don't like. Fun, fun!

That's a good point. If I recall trump's longest rally speech has been just over two hours. You gotta bet the over 2 hr mark right? Short of Fartman showing up in the rafters to upstage him no way he doesn't set a personal record.
