Ongoing US GOP Debacle Thread: Seditious Republicans march toward authoritarianism

Overheard conversation earns Conway leaker label

White House counselor Kellyanne Conway reportedly shared behind-the-scenes White House conversations with reporters at a Washington, D.C. party on Friday night in conversations that were overheard by another party guest.

A witness labeled Conway a "leaker" for talking about conversations with Trump in an open setting to members of the media. Leakers have been under fire by Trump and the White House. Trump is besieged by reports based on leaks of his plans and has blasted media for reporting based on anonymous sources, which he claims are likely fabricated.

The witness created an anonymous Twitter feed, @KellyanneLeaks, to document Conway's overheard conversations. Politico first reported the Twitter feed and confirmed the conversations with two other sources.

Update: Michael Treiman reflects on his experience as a candidate, says he may once again seek public office.

Michael Treiman, the only Democratic candidate for Binghamton mayor, pulled out of the race on Tuesday after receiving threats.

WNBF reports that Treiman quit one week after he announced his campaign for public office. Treiman made his announcement on Facebook, saying that he was "officially dropping out of the race as of this moment."

Treiman discussed his bid to challenge Republican incumbent Richard David during an appearance on WNBF's "Binghamton Now" radio program Tuesday morning. Four hours after the show, Treiman received threatening emails.

Tuesday evening, Treiman was still being threatened, but the messages addressed his wife and children. Treiman tells WNBF that the emails were "heinous attempts to scare me off," but he didn't consider leaving the race.

Later that night, Treiman returned home at 8 p.m. after picking up his two-year-old and eleven-month-old children from a sitter. That's when an unidentified person in a pickup truck threw a full soda container at him. Treiman said he was hit in the back as he turned to shield the child he was holding.

Treiman said the man who threw the can yelled "liberal scumbag" before driving away from the scene.

While Treiman didn't report the incident to police, he said two Binghamton police detectives showed up at his home Wednesday morning. He said the investigators said they were told to check on the condition of him and his family.

Treiman tells WNBF that he won't jeopardize the safety of his wife and children while running for office.

There now are no Democrats seeking the mayoral position in Binghamton.

A US House candidate also dropped out a while back due to death threats.

Gotta wonder how this contributes to the seemingly lower number of Democrats who run for office than republicans.

Trump ‘Aggressively Courted’ Cindy McCain for State Dept Job

After months of being offered—and rejecting—several potential posts in the Trump administration, Cindy McCain and the president came to the agreement of a Washington, D.C.-based ambassador-at-large position, which would focus on anti human trafficking efforts, refugees, and humanitarian-aid matters. The title being kicked around internally is “U.S. ambassador-at-large for human rights,” though that title is subject to change, and it is unclear if a new office within the State Department would be created for her.

“[Trump personally], aggressively courted her for this,” one White House official told The Daily Beast. “It’s a done deal now… The president had floated several positions before—this is the one that stuck.”

Especially a rant about homeland security. Just tone deaf and ignorant of history.

Pat Toomey had a "town hall" last night with eight (!) participants and pre-screened questions. He is one of the authors of the Senate's healthcare bill, and the one who insisted on big cuts to Medicaid (while claiming that there are no cuts to Medicaid.)
