Pro Life / Pro Choice Debate

I find Colleen's comment to be spot on! I've seen and heard some unmitigated hate directed at women on their way into the clinic. If Kavanaugh doesn't like the protests outside his residence, then he can go to hell on a pogo stick for all I care. Just pound another tall boy, Brett, and shut the fuck up!

State legislators in California have proposed a package of bills to address what they expect to be an influx in people seeking access to abortion in the state if Roe is overturned. New York lawmakers have also proposed legislation that would help people pay for abortions, even allowing taxpayers to contribute donations.

I just recently signed up as a clinic escort. I haven't been through the training yet, but I understand it's pretty rough. But if that's the least I can do, I'm doing it.

I didn’t know that was a thing, but I am totally going to look into it (well, assuming there are still clinics operating in Georgia in the coming months).

Sometimes I’m appalled how much I have to explain to presumably well-educated knowledgeable people.

Maybe being appalled by the frequency and depth of your need to explain to others says something you've never considered. Perhaps all those people you presume to be well-educated and knowledgeable actually are, more often than not, well-educated and knowledgeable. Just a theory.

Interesting post. You’re the one who comes to the Tunnels every few months and makes overwrought posts that are either very obvious or very wrong and ignore all the previous discussion on the topic. You’re one of the few people I redirect such explanatory posts so yeah you’re right. You’re not well-educated or knowledgeable and should be treated as such.

Absolutely true. I’ve also seen discussions about that. And suppose a person doesn’t miscarry completely. They have a septic uterus that requires a surgical procedure. A D&C is an abortion. So the person has a life-threatening (certainly fertility-threatening) condition that can’t be surgically repaired in certain states. So a living, breathing person dies because of a clump of dead cells in their uterus.

Can doctors in states where such life-saving procedures are illegal tell patients they need those procedure? Can they recommend where they get can get them out of state?

A friend just posted that she's going through state-by-state abortion laws helping her teenage daughter put together where she's applying to colleges.

This is a pretty powerful argument to my prior post.

The Supreme Court has ruled that it is lawful for the Westboro Baptist Church to protest at the funerals of dead soldiers, while carrying hateful signs. If the Court is ok with that, then they shouldn't mind some people on their front lawn.

I assume that will depend on the state-level legislation. Some draft bills are criminalizing doctors' assistance with these procedures, so I assume providing information about where to go to get an abortion elsewhere would be included.

Yeah, focusing on the location of pro-choice protests seems a bit like focusing on who leaked the draft opinion instead of the content of the draft opinion.

So apparently in Madsen v. Women's Health Center in the '90s, SCOTUS ruled that it was allowable to protest outside the private homes of people who work at abortion clinics. My sympathy for Brett and the rest of the gang is quickly ebbing.

Hey!

wakegrrl, you are doing a very courageous thing in volunteering to be a clinic escort. You've got me thinking about it myself!
