Pro Life / Pro Choice Debate

Interesting post. You’re the one who comes to the Tunnels every few months and makes overwrought posts that are either very obvious or very wrong and ignore all the previous discussion on the topic. You’re one of the few people I redirect such explanatory posts so yeah you’re right. You’re not well-educated or knowledgeable and should be treated as such.

Yes, it certainly is "interesting".

I just recently signed up as a clinic escort. I haven't been through the training yet, but I understand it's pretty rough. But if that's the least I can do, I'm doing it.

Now I know for sure that the poster I have observed on here and thought seems really cool well, really is cool.

The explanation of how abortion became the driving political wedge issue for the Republican Party (16 tweet thread)

True. It all has systemic racism as its source. That's why Republicans were quick to attack critical race theory as well. God forbid such a radical notion!

God speed to those who put themselves in harms way to volunteer to take women to abortion clinics. That has got to be a nerve wracking experience.

So women are just nests now.

So apparently in Madsen v. Women's Health Center in the '90s, SCOTUS ruled that it was allowable to protest outside the private homes of people who work at abortion clinics. My sympathy for Brett and the rest of the gang is quickly ebbing.

Welp, there you go. I was wrong.

I was signed up to escort women into an abortion clinic but . . .

In case you think they won't go after IVF.

Oh, they're going after anything and everything that we let them get away with.

I just really want to encourage all of you to do something. You don't have to be a clinic escort (to be honest, my husband isn't thrilled but he knows better than to try to talk me out of it). You can help register voters. Contribute time or money to pro-choice candidates. Many of you may already be doing these things but if you're not, ask yourself how you can get involved. Then ask your like-thinking friends. The time, as they say, is now.

A hopeful note from a WaPo article on the abortion bill vote:
https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2022/05/11/abortion-senate-vote/

One option that Blumenthal and some other Democrats are floating is to hold votes protecting other rights besides abortion that have been secured by Supreme Court decisions rooted in the same legal theory as Roe — rights that are not enumerated in the Constitution but have been inferred from the Due Process Clause of the 14th Amendment. Those include, among other things, the right to contraception and same-sex marriage.

“I can’t tell you right now all the different ways that we should be highlighting what a danger this poses for other rights that are based on the right to privacy,” Sen. Mazie Hirono (D-Hawaii) said. “There’s an entire range of issues, constitutional protections that will, I think, be in jeopardy.”

The legislative strategy on Capitol Hill is being hashed out in tandem with a broader strategy on how to harness grass-roots distress at the looming threat to Roe. Planned Parenthood and its action arm reported a tenfold increase in people signing up to volunteer for mobilization efforts less than 24 hours after Politico first published Alito’s draft opinion. NARAL Pro-Choice America, an abortion rights group, netted its largest amount in a single day, garnering a 1,403 percent increase in donations compared with the day before the leak.

The IVF debate is fascinating to me. I have a good friend who's wife has gone off the deep end on social media. One half of her posts are anti-choice, even going so far as to say only a "psychopath" would get an abortion. The other half of her posts are dedicated to the difficulties surrounding IVF. Now, I am not medical expert, but my understanding is that IVF treatment results in the destruction of multiple fertilized eggs, also known as embryos. How is this not incredibly hypocritical? Logically, I think the evangelical right must go after IVF, but for some reason they have been hesitant to go there.

Well, I think we all know why. And logic definitely has never entered the chatroom with that shit group.

Right. I fully believe their anti-abortion crusade is more about controlling women and subjugating a class of people than it is about following Jesus. Otherwise, they would give a shit when the kids are born.
