Pro Life / Pro Choice Debate

That dude in the red seriously looks like his head is photoshopped on. Like a caricature . It's seriously messing with my mind.

Kenneth Copeland is about as representative of evangelical Christians as they come. He's been around and been popular for a long time.

You think someone could be pro-life and not see the act of abortion as something the government should be concerned about? Some serious cognitive dissonance going on in that philosophy.

You sound like the people you mock.

"I love education I just don't think it is something that our governing body should be worried about...."

My PERSONAL religious beliefs and beliefs on this issue have no Governmental barring. Similarly, I don't give a shit what you think on this issue and the Government shouldn't either...First Amendment to the United States Constitution should make that clear.

Abortions will continue to happen if the child is unwanted and I would rather it be conducted in a sterile and medically adequate way rather than what was done in previous generations (back alley types, falling down stairs or ingestion of whatever). Besides, the Government should have zero input on a person's body...what they can do or what they can't. It's clearly defined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights after World War 2.

Clearly it needs regulations and evaluation of timing (of abortion), health (of mom and child), incest, etc.. It's can't be viewed as a form of birth control, which is an issues over the last two decades.

I am also very hard on the death-penalty...how do you feel on that? if you don't put the same emphasis on pro-life then you are a hypocrite. It has continuously been found erroneous.

So Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson do represent all African Americans?

And radical Islam does represent all Muslims?

Ph posted an article about how evangelicals are not the monolith they're portrayed as, so I have to think that's not what he meant. Many evangelicals have bought into the prosperity gospel of Copeland and those like him, but surely a lot of them are also appalled by his focus on attaining material things through prayer.

Wrangor seemed to suggest Copeland was some fringe guy. I mentioned that he was not.

Sorry to have upset you. You are welcome to have whatever viewpoint you want but these aren't statements that reflect someone who is pro life. I think your conscience is uncomfortable with the idea of abortions but you aren't willing to take a stand against it.
Your viewpoint is a common one. Taking a true pro life stand is not a comfortable one.

This probably describes me reasonably well, though I think I'm "okay" with some early abortions... I guess. Just seems to me the way to tackle the issue is to make reproductive health care and safe sex methods cheap/free to everyone. That would hopefully significantly reduce the amount of abortions.

Wrangor is the "moderate islamic" of the evangelical world. The group that gets the press is Copeland, he is at the heart of it all and that is who represents you to most people. If you don't want that to be the case don't sit back but do something about it.

quite contrary, i do take a stand on it in civil arguments, donations, etc.. IMO anyone that would give power to our government to over-ride any part of their human right is a damn fool. in my life there has never been a time that the government has proven to be trustworthy...give an inch and they will take a mile (as long as it lines their pockets).

it is a personal, family and church matter.

Yeah, I didn't mean it as something to denigrating warak for. I just was trying to point out the reality that he isn't pro-life if he takes those stances. You are pro choice, but want to reduce abortions because you conscience is weighing on you a bit. That is probably a very common stance. I don't agree with it, but it is probably the most common viewpoint. Pro-life means you value life over the choice of the mother. Just trying to deal with reality.

Agree with your take on positions. To value the life of the unborn child over the mother in absolutely all situations is where I can't get. If that were my position, I would also have to oppose an abortion in the case of rape, and I can't get there. Having said that, we've gone through a pregnancy (a twin pregnancy no less) and those were "my kids" from the 10 week ultrasound on and they were certainly very real and alive to me.

Being prolife and saying that women who have abortions shouldn't be punished is ridiculous to me. I also don't understand why pro-life advocates don't take a stand on in-utero child abuse, like smoking, drinking while pregnant.

question: if you have a genetic disorder that causes the child not to be taken full term (cause miscarriage), such as endometriosis or thin uterine lining, but continue to try to have children causing another miscarriage...is that manslaughter? Or in the wake of Zikia, if you knowingly try to have a child (they say cure is at least three years out) and the child later dies from microcephaly...is that manslaughter?

ultimately i am really not trying to argue, we clearly have different schools of thought and this will be my last post on the issue. my personal religious belief is pro-life and free will (God given). i think our government is bloated, inefficient and lead by self-affirming greed mongers...and clearly you disagree. you can keep your socialist tyrannical government, i want no part of it! THAT and ONLY THAT is the reason i vote pro-choice...if that is not clear, i am sorry and you can get back in your line.
