Rand Paul Making New Friends

which everyone knows are worthless when confronted with cold, hard #anecdotes and ideological purity.

It depends on the narrative you're spinning.

If the stats don't fit your narrative, they're #millennialbullshit
If the anecdotes confirm your bias, they're worthwhile.

ASIDE:

I have been on about a 2 year kick reading about the ways in which the mind tricks itself in different ways with its own biases, fallacies, and imperfections. We make these leaps in logic all the time either to confirm our biases, make things easier on ourselves, or just generally avoid cognitive dissonance. So I try not to be swayed too easily by personal experience. It's tough for a bleeding heart like me not to get swayed when I see about a dozen of the same homeless people every day on my way to work, or the de facto segregation of the different neighborhoods of my city. Those observation and frequency and recency biases color the way I see the world, and I get that. So ultimately, I try to go to numbers games like stats to try and temper my biases. Just so happens that you can empirically argue things like this. It's just a matter of finding a new chart for every goal post shift.

I have a tough time understanding the jhmd logic that ideology and a few anecdotes >>>> hundreds of thousands of anecdotes organized in a cohesive manner.

He's just not as closed minded and dogmatic as the rest of us. He is open to dissenting opinions instead of calling names and belittling those who differ. You ascribe to the religion of political correctness, so you'll never understand.

Screw thousands of people to combat a insignificant number of fraudulent cases. It's the GOP way.

by people with social science degrees, so, worthless

Whatever dumb ass. When presented with facts that contradict my thoughts, I ignore them, and stick to my initial hypothesis. I'm not closed minded, I'm right damn it!

Hold on a second. That article is discussing the elderly, social security, and medicaid. Are you associating lazy moochers with people who aren't looking for a job at age 80?

"It’s not that all of those Americans are “takers,” as former Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney suggested. Some 42 million are seniors receiving Social Security and Medicare."

It’s not that all of those Americans are “takers,” as former Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney suggested. Some 42 million are seniors receiving Social Security and Medicare. They aren’t getting something for free; they faithfully paid into the system for decades with the expectation that they would be getting it back at retirement. And they deserve every penny they get—or may not get if Social Security or Medicare has to cut benefits.

the horror! the horror!

All a bunch of lazy, mooching, fraudulent dependents, for sure.

Quite the opposite: every single one of the checks our government cuts is necessary and essential. Much like opioids, people jump off and on government benefits all of the time. Things I have learned on the Tunnels.

People also pay into Unemployment Insurance. Millions never get any kind of payout from it.

yes, it's a broad brush "benefits".

and then he complains that oldsters might lose out on some benefits. so it's ok to get benefits but for purposes of his whining he includes them with the moochers

WEEEEEEEEEEEE!

That dog is a lazy moocher.

I love the typical gloom and doom the world is going to end predictions from the conservatives there. Many 1st world countries employ more socialist models than we do.

That, and the number of Americans who benefit from a government program at some point in their lives is a lot closer to 100% than it is to 51% and has been for a century. Somehow we have persevered.

I love this picture from that Forbes article. It is such perfect R propaganda. Just look at the self satisfied smirk on his face as he takes your hard earned dollars.
