Well then, how about adding some knowledge of the past. Block of stone with a brass plaque that says, "On this spot (person, name) was lynched by a white mob on [date]."

Something over 1000 of those could go up to help people who don't want to read have knowledge of past events. There are many street corners, parks and courthouse squares where such a monument would be appropriately placed.

Why wouldn’t a big corporation just by the team name? With merchandise, that’s way better exposure than being mentioned with a stadium name. They mention the stadium once or twice per game broadcast. You see the corporate logo on every play on a jersey.
On the flip side, you don’t want your brand to be a doormat. At least stadiums can feel more linked to the community than the team.

Statues don't teach history, they teach cultural values. A statue doesn't open a window into the events of history, it displays who/what is/was venerated by the locality.

The guy who has been squatting a lot of potential names for the Washington football team has been getting hate mail/tweets etc. He now says he was just trying to protect them from bad actors, and is making them available if Snyder and company just ask.

Supposedly Trademark issues are holding up the announcement of the preferred name choice.

I would think that the Arkansas State U issue with the "Red Wolves" name could be resolved with the proper application of some "green salve." Maybe the Chattanooga pro soccer team that has been playing hardball with ASU is more of a problem. The soccer team and school have been in court for a while over use of the "Red Wolves" name.

Whatever the new name, I expect it to be two syllables, to fit the melody of the fight song. The lyrics have been changed several times and can be changed again. The melody is harder. To maintain some continuity, I see the Barnee Breeskin melody continuing to be used. The new name will have to fit.

I also expect the new name to be compatible with current team colors. I rate the probability of a concurrent change in team colors as very low. There's lots of stuff out there in burgundy and gold. Many memories too. Dan Snyder grew up as a rabid fan who acquired FU money and bought his childhood dream team. He will want the team to look the same as his boyhood dream, even if it has a different nickname and mascot.
 
is there a worse professional organization to be a fan of than this one?

Washington minority shareholders are trying to sell their stake in the franchise. Seems like a weird move. If this is as bad as it seems, they should be trying to buy Synder out.

Pat McAfee was going nuts on his show today. He was reading some of the reports but wouldn't say what he was reading on the air. Sounds like it's not just sexual abuse and harassment but also potentially on field misconduct.

Synder bought the franchise for $800 million in 1999. Tepper bought the Panthers for $2.2 billion. That's a bloody fortune. I think Washington could get at least $2.5 billion, probably more.
 
So Snyder may have been paying NFL refs? This could be 1 of the biggest NFL scandals ever.

Looks like the (or a) Post article just dropped. Alert says 15 women accuse scouts and Synder's inner circle of sexual harassment.
